these are my old tires - where can I buy them?

I bought 4 new tires in 2009 at Big O in Oakland, Calif. Now I am back in NYC and need tires - I want the same ones as before because hey - they were good tires - obviously -

here's what it says on my receipt and the tires themselves:

p235/75r15 tempest touring SR/TR BL

When I punched it in google, very strange listings came up - the closest Big O is in Indiana - just a tad bit far (but I am willing to go to NJ or PA)

suggestions?

Based off the name alone I'd guess they are private label by a major mfr or China tires.

Nothing wrong with either type.. I've driven thousands of safe miles on Kumhos made in VN. Also the last set of tires I got from discount tire were private label for the store but made by Yokohama in a USA plant. They were a freaking steal at $90/EA and rode great.

Good luck on your tire search.

That's too long. Usually after 2-3 years, the tire companies come out with a new model. Either they do something like call it the A/S 3+ or they come out with a new name. It's practically impossible to find the exact same tire being made 8 years later. Just go find something else that's close. Use tirerack and check the reviews on the tires that pop up.

I'm almost sure that these tires were a private label brand tire that was rebranded under Big O and has subsequently been discontinued or are still being made under a different name.

I looked under TBC Brands who have several private label offerings and under Sigma Tires ( which appear to be America-made ) it looks like they had a Tempest Touring model at one time. TBC evidently does private label work for Sumitomo too ( it's listed as one of their brands ) so the Sumitomo 'Tempest Touring' referenced above would make sense too. Not sure it's worth the effort to track these down versus getting an approximate equivalent in a current tire.

Yup, this. If it does come back to TBC brands they're the workaday tire you've never heard of and you'll probably like their other offerings.

VIP in New England used to sell a bunch of TBC stuff as "multi mile". TBC has the list on their website, http://www.tbcbrands.com/. I had some and they were good-- entirely forgettable, but in a good way.

For branding/ cross competing, price matching reasons every tire chain seems able to get their own name. There may also be distribution to corner gas stations. It won't be hard!

In the northeast, Big O uses the name NTB. Both are owned by Sumitomo.

My suggestion? Get real tires.

235/75-15

Falken has a few good choices in your size.

The only "real tires" on BITOG are Michelins.

Yeah, get them at BJ's or Costco although Costco tends to be cheaper than BJ's.

wow thanks for all the responses

what I found out was unfortunately (for me) yeah, they were discontinued about the same time I bought mine

decided just to go to Sears tomorrow and get a pair there - I can't really get 4 right now so will go with 2 now and 2 more in a couple of months. I had a blowout last week and am running my spare on there, don't want to mess things up as it's a dif tire altogether - was still brand new when I bought the other 4 in 2009 so saw no need to replace it.

I have a good mechanic here but no tire guy - I really liked the Big O in Calif wish we had one here - but whatever.

I did call Tire Rack but they don't have any women working in sales and also are based in Indiana and my politics are such I will boycott Indiana anyway possible so no deals to be done there.

have a good weekend everyone thanks again!!

Oh, you were just supposed to use tirerack to check out their reviews. However it's always cheaper to just have the tire store price match to tirerack's price. And if you just google the tire and the size you're interested in, you'll come with some other obscure tire site that has the tire at a slightly lower price. Price match usually includes the shipping charge though so check total price. Sometimes it's a wash though because even though you pay local sales tax, some stores charge extra to mount the tire if you didn't buy it there. Oh yeah, Sears price matches too, don't know how much longer they'll be in business though. BJs and Costco or Sams usually works out cheaper because they don't charge as much as the chains for mount/balancing plus they usually throw in a road hazard warranty which is extra at the chains.
