I'm an apartment dweller, so I rely on quick change oil places.

In my neighborhood I can get a Penzoil Platinum oil change, but it comes with a FRAM filter.

Is it worth it? Or, should I stick will a place that offers dino changes and other brands of filters?

I used to get my 'Vette changed with Redline and a M-1 filter.

They charged me the usual rate...and used my products.

I think the oil in drums and cheap filters amount to about $5.00 or less. The rest is labor; rent and profit.

Find an independent repair shop close by that would do oil change with your oil and filter. They should charge a nominal labor fee of $10 or less. This way you can buy oil and filter of your choice when it is on sale. In my area, there are several independent garages charge only $5 for labor to do oil+filter change.

It would be fine.

But I agree if you really want something different find a small serviceg garage in your area and they might charge like $ 10.00 to change it. Then you can buy what you want. Like Napa Gold or Carquest blue filters and oil in jugs at Walmart.

Bring in the filter of your choice, then WATCH them install it for you. When you get your oil changed the next time, WATCH them actually remove the old filter and install the new one.

When I was in college I had an apt. I just kept a jack in the trunk of my car, two jackstands in the closet, and one of those oil catch buckets on the back patio (also used a disposable turkey roaster pan a few times). We had an overflow lot that I used as a venue sometimes, other times a friend's house. Once I changed it in the wal-mart parking lot. I don't know, but changing my own oil is so much fun... I can't imagine spending all this time talking about oil and then not doing it myself.

That said, my father insists on bringing his to the shop and regularly brings his own oil and filter. Just use a place you trust. What have they to gain from not using your oil and filter (unless they drive a similar car)?

do you have any friends/family that have a garage or other kind of place to change it?

I often help my own friends with their maintenance, i often just change the oil in my vehicles outside if the whether permits, sometimes have to cause the garage is full :)
