It's facts, not your preferences and biases, that would be of some interest.

Everyone has opinions.

No, there are MANY UOAs out there that show other brands of oil work just as good and some better than mobil 1.

We are not just takeing everyones word on it and accepting it as fact.

FWIW Mein Kampf was the most boring writing I have ever read.

It helps, apparently, to have little or no actual experience in the world of lubrication and automotive maintenance.

Those of us with experience know better.

And whats your experience??

I have a solution, contact GM or the API yourself and draw your own conclusions. Email them. Do some research Rolf.

Throwing out irrelevant questions and demanding more proof isn't any more "factual" then what Ashland is claiming. Ashland offers a factual answer based on their facts. You are ignoring all the evidence presented so far by Ashland.

Nearly 40 years of automobile service experience.

Former service manager for one of the Big 3, currently fleet manager of a multi-hundred vehicle mixed fleet.

What's yours?

.

Sad, since anyone here with 6 months in and a post count over 1000 knows more about Motor oil and Lubrication than 99.9% of mechanics let alone service managers.

One of the advantages of being young and stupid is that you don't know you're stupid.

You find out later.

Do UOA's really tell us that?

Or do they tell us how a particular oil is doing in terms of handling contamination and how it is holding up via TBN?

Because determining "works just as well" and "better" would involve extensive testing including tear downs, deposit accumulation tests, cleanliness tests....etc........

Now something everyone can agree on ....

Rolf, I think you are taking this the wrong way. Most people know Mobil 1 is a fine oil. What people are now saying is that it's up to XOM to refute the claim. They have yet to respond. Hanging up on people and being in denial doesn't solve the problem.

I thought you were going to have degrees in Lubercation engineering and worked for a oil company. Some one with first hand knowledge.

Your a former Service manager for one of the big three!

The nice thing about being young and stupid, is I am young. It must suck to just be stupid.

I am done chatting about this topic. Anyone who thinks Mobil 1 is the best oil and all others can not stand up is, in my eyes wasting there time on this forum. It seems you allready have it all found out.

This forum is about motor oil. All kinds. If Mobil 1 was the best, I think it would have a bigger following and this forum would be called BITM1G.

I dunno. I do not blindly call Mobil 1 the best oil out there, and I welcome Ashlands claims and do not just disregard them. I guess I am just to young and stupid.

Just e-mailed GM. Looks like you can't e-mail Honda, has to be phone.

I will contact the API next.

Rolf- I've based my opinions on the UOA's I've read here, and Mobil's response to questions I had. Your credentials are impressive, and I mean no disrespect here. I've been around the block myself, worked in auto sales, parts, a machine shop, and a little repair. We had service managers that were clueless, but had a good line with the customers, and that's all the owners cared about. I've seen backyard mechanics rival some of the best dealer techs when it comes to troubleshooting and servicing cars. There are a lot of people here in that are in the know.

I like facts.

What do you like?

I await facts.

Not opinions.

Not biases.

Not "everyone knows".

Facts.
