Open your eyes wider and your mouth less wide and take a long constructive look at the damage in Alaska caused by all of that "used oil." That oughta be enough of an analysis for you.

Then again, probably not.

Let's not make motor oil a moral crusade.

Some of us have weak stomaches.

Next we'll be seeing pictures of the poor birdies.

I still don't see a Used Motor Oil Analysis.

Or has the purpose of this forum changed?

ExxonMobil purposely hired a drunk to captain the Exxon Valdez?

Could we return to motor oil?

Buster, I was waiting for this from you. As I recall, you used to trash the living [censored] out of Mobil One. For a while, you seemed to be their number one enemy. Then suddenly, you start using it in your Honda and just as suddenly, the wind is blowing in the other direction.

Nope. It's still "Passenger Car Motor Oil."

Another "nope." They just ignored that fact after they had hired him, crossed their fingers, and hoped the UOA didn't turn out too badly after all that oil hit the shoreline.

We already have.

Oh, you mean *facts*.

I see you've joined the Greek chorus of "We hate ExxonMobil".

I am pretty much focused on motor oil, not moral censure.

When you are the Big Bully the little guys try to take you down. (Look at Microsoft)

So the wear may be a little higher in Mobil 1 than other oils if you are using the UOA for justification. Will it make that much difference in 100, 200, 300,000 miles? Hard to say. Most people will not own their cars that long to know or care. But Mobil 1 must have it right by being the king. There is more to an oil's performance than wear alone.

The only thing that bothers me about this thread is that it started two hours ago and we already have four pages on it, and no agreement on anything.

Just above this thread or maybe below it now, there is this 12 page thread and still no agreement. There is a lot of multiple duplication here lately and I personally cannot keep up with it.

Which is pretty good evidence that we're not dealing with facts, we're dealing with opinions and prejudices.

Every jack'n'ape has an opinion.

Me, I want facts.

I have Red Line, Mobil 1 (5 different ones), GM EOS, and LubeGard Bio/Tech on my shelves.

I am results/application driven.

Performance talks.

That doesn't mean that M1 is a bad oil or that I would never use it again, because that's just not the case. I choose to use something different because I like seeing lower numbers on my UOA's. M1 might return better results for other people but not for my application, where as my oil choice might do the same in return if the situation were reversed. I would use M1 without hesitation, as it is a great oil.

StevieC: Did you read Doug's tear-down info and the 150ppm of Fe being his condemnation point? A UOA tells you very little about how your engine is wearing. You really don't know if it was wearing "worse" with the M1 or not. You simply know it had more iron in the narrow range of particulate size that a UOA samples. You have no idea of particle content outside that range, which could very well be MORE with other oils.

So true and so overlooked here.

I have nothing against M1. I've run it in both of my cars in the past. If they made a straight 30 synthetic with lots of ZDDP I would probably run it. Unfortunately I have an agenda to push with the anti-30wt, anti-straight weight, anti-synthetic, anti-SL rated, anti-diesel in a passenger car crowd.
