The Hypocrisy of Youth

During the summer election, then prime minister Stephen Harper referred to me (4th generation redneck), as an "Old Stock Canadian". Not knowing exactly what he meant by that comment, I went to the liquor store and bought a 24 of Carling's "Old Stock" beer, sat down and drank it. Yep, I'm an old stock Canadian, but he lost my vote with the insinuation that we are what hatt, two posts up described.

AS far as the cover story? Sometimes the news becomes the news.

I don't know much but fwiw my 'well grounded' wife has been a college educator for over 40 years. She has observed many Liberal Arts PHD types that have hired in over the years, and while a number seem to be 'nice folks', she says-almost with out exception-they harbor some of the "strangest ideas about most everything". She doesn't know if it's the people or the PHD drive or process or what.

Go ahead and explain the incident and why it was good and productive. And be specific.

You're kinda proving his point there.

Though it seems everybody in this thread (almost everyone, anyways) think it's a left or right thing. It's not.

It's a generation that is truly out of touch of what used to be the real world. It's everyone for themselves in their own little minds..

Because the youth is part of the main problem. Professors only add gasoline to the fire...

It's really not a left vs right thing. There is a large gray area. Being a centrist/moderate is best. Both sides have their good/bad ideas/ideologies.

Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.” - Bary Goldwater

Couldn't have been more accurate.

"I don't want to believe. I want to know". - Carl Sagan

*and historically and globally, mixed economic systems work best. there simply is no such thing as a free market among other nonsense that the right spews.

Heck, many still think the earth is only 6,000 years old! That's a problem!

Most on the right are usually proven wrong over time and are often on the wrong side of history. They fear change and cling to their fairy tales.

No doubt though we have a very entitlement happy younger generation. That is also a bad thing.

There's an awful lot of political talk in this thread, considering the no r/s/p rule.

Yeah except a mod started the thread. They should resend the silly rules if they dont follow them.

Yep, because most people miss the root of the problem....

I can't figure out if there is a problem to figure out in the 1st place. You live in a free democratic society. Something happens, nobody got hurt, no burning buildings, it goes on TV, everybody talks about because your allowed to talk about it in a free country, everybody learns from the incident and moves on. Everyone picks left, right or center because they can, and that is a problem?

Uh, rescind, maybe?

Re the OP, I apologise on behalf of all Australians for Rupert Murdoch becoming a world power, and source of righteous indignation to many.

As per their own testimony, they are entertainment providers, and play to their target audience's preferences, fears and favours.

It's entertainment, that's what the Fox says, and someone very early on in this thread was entertained.

Spot on. With well over 90% of college professors self-identifying as 'progressives' we can expect more nonsense.

"I need some muscle over here" to try and throw out the press. Brilliantly ironic in such extreme fashion...

By the 1940's many in academia ascribed to the philosophy of Marx and Engels. Its not a "generational thing". Its gaining traction.

I had on college professor that all she spoke about was slavery and that no matter how light the color of your skin, hair and eyes.....

You have black DNA from African slaves. I'm not kidding.

Not at all. The left by nature is hypocritical.

How is that different than the right?

Is college students protesting something new? Didn't this happen in the 60's 70's 80's and 90's? I don't understand why people are wound up over this.

Well, I not sure if these kids follow that history....

I really have not been following this at all, but it seems to be on the news. So I looked. For what it's worth, Wikipedia indicates the University of Missouri has over 35,000 students. I have not been able to determine how many students took part in this, but it appears only one faculty was at the center of this mess, and not a full time prof.

Are we painting with a broad brush how ALL youth and ALL prof's are all stupid? On the basis of one demonstration? I recall seeing some foolish stuff in my college days, but to say the entire campus participated in it is far from the truth.

Good thing I wasn't there, I'd be asking where are my reparations and thank goodness I'm not part of the White Privilege crowd.

I went to a pretty liberal university on an ROTC scholarship. Much of the granola and coexist crowd didn't seem to want to coexist with me.

That's OK, the School of Engineer was a far more enlightened and useful place compared to the School of Arts and Sciences.

No one is doing that. But considering the President resigned and the Chancellor are stepping down...does that not make the University look stupid and foolish. Wait..they don't look stupid. They are stupid. Who can take this university seriously..not me. But who cares about me?

They don't follow it but they are exactly like the SDS of the 60's. I was at PSU during this time.
