The end of the powersports battery in the ZTR

It’s been a good run. My ariens ztr originally had a rather small sealed lead acid battery. It was perhaps 1/3 the size of the standard garden tractor battery. That sucker lasted 7 years with no care. It got rather weak at 4 years and I might have to bump the starter a couple times to get it to spin, but 7 years was a great run. Rather than buy the utility batteries which at the time were lasting 1-2 years per this forum, I ended up with a JCI AGM from Walmart’s powersports battery endcap. This was a baller move and it has made it 4 years. i *might* be able to finish the season, but the rate of decline is steep in this one and I don’t have the confidence I can make it last. I’m mowing not just my own lawn but also a friends and decided not to mess around. Found on batteries plus something that looks really similar to the original ariens battery.

this is the original, hard to find in stock: https://www.ariens.com/en-us/part/zero-turn-12-volt-battery-04738800

this is the batteries plus option: https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/battery/sla-sealed-lead-acid/wkdc12=14nb

im pretty sure the powersports agm battery was around $65, so these prices are all in-range.

I would check Amazon for power sports batteries that are a different size that you could still make fit in there. The more common sizes for ATVs are much cheaper. They have one that fits my Honda 300 Fourtrax for $37 shipped. I almost never buy powersports batteries locally. I think Napa wanted $105 for their version that fits my ATV, and it had less CCA. Autozone was $90 or so and the ATV dealers are higher. The Amazon battery on my ATV is already at 4 years, and I use it for plowing snow.
