Try three grades, at least up here. The GC, 0w-40, and the 5w-40 on our shelves all meet the same specifications (with the API specs the only differences on a cursory check). Oddly enough, the new 0w-40 is about a buck a litre more than the GC or the 5w-40.

Out here, the 5w-40 version only meets MB 229.3, but the 0w30 and 0w-40 versions meet MB 229.5, so I consider them superior to the 5w-40 grade.

Yep, I did gloss over the differences in the MB specifications. I'm not terribly pleased with Walmart charging more for the 0w-40 than the 0w30 or 5w-40. After all, it's not like a discount is available for buying in a 5 litre jug anyhow. I don't know if there's such a price difference in the States or if it's just a Canadian thing.

All the Mobi1 motor oils sold in Canada must be twice as good as the ones sold in USA , otherwise why would we be paying double of what americans do ? :-)

But they have. Look at the technical datasheets and the oils are clearly not the same anymore. I don't understand how you can argue that point.

I currently have 10 quarts of Made in Germany Castrol Syntec 0w30 in my 1984 Jeep Cherokee. Its not in the engine though, its in AutoZone bags up front in passenger foot compartment, 2 bags, 2 oil change specials of $31.99 for 5 quarts each and Mobil 1 301 Extended Performance oil filters that Ill just Stash Away...M13????? Castrol EDGE 0w30 at that, 2013..

I think they should have continued the green product. Honestly, something little like that can really make a difference in bringing in a customer. I'd use it, if it was still green.

Is this 0W30 Made in Belgium with same specs or they updated it to EU 0W30 (MB 229.51, BMW LL-04)?

I've never seen Belgian made 0w-30,only 0w-40 on our shelves locally.

I was just at 2 of my local Auto Zones and they had full stock of GC priced at almost $9 a qt. They had just received a new order of the stuff in the back that was not on the shelf yet. I asked the guy if it was in his computer and able to order it and he said it was and they were showing another delivery of GC in less then a week.

Not sure where you guys are seeing this but GC is here to stay.

Chris, the point was 0w30 was coming from Belgium now. So "German Castrol" as we knew could potentially be gone. The name came from its country of origin.

Now there are reports saying the previous Belgium product, 0w-40 is coming from Germany of all things (this was not known when thread began).

All the GC in the boxes in the back were from Germany and marked so. I'll keep watching to see if they change.
