TGI Fridays files for bankruptcy

Chains around here struggle so bad. We have way too many restaurants so many are really good.

Small city nearby has population of 21000 and 300 restaurants….

I never understood why the companies don’t dump them when things are well. Restaurants all have an expiry.

IDK if TGI owns their real estate or rents. Or if they pulled a Sears and sold their real estate only to rent it back. (If your employer does this, dust off your resume!) It seems like a lot of restaurants could succeed if their rent was reasonable but investors gobble up downtown buildings and raise rents so much everyone gets driven out.

Then there's "en-poop-ification" where they slowly shed quality in the name of profits until people just stop going. I don't go there, I can drink a beer at home for a dollar and make my own steak and salad-from-a-bag.

Not surprised.

The last 2 times I went there the food was just OK….. microwave quality food and overhead music was very loud.

Lots of restaurants affected by Covid shutdown and never regained the sales figures.
Bummer. Apparently I helped bar tenders with trivia questions and drank free all night. Maybe thats not Kosher but hey. Second I didn't know this but apparently you HAVE TO sit in the bar area for happy hour prices to be applied to your bill. A friend of mines sister and her kids went and sat in the family or regular area during happy hour and were told they didn't apply. I really liked their loaded baked potato appetizers.

I haven't been in a Fridays in probably forty years, although I remember that it seemed kinda hip back in the eighties and the food was pretty decent.
Time passes all business models by and this appears to be the case for Fridays. Certainly the pandemic and the general rise in wages since then have made hiring and retaining staff far more challenging and the number of people stopping by chains of this type seems to have dwindled. I also know that many people with whom I interact report very bad experiences with casual drinks and dining chains, including Fridays, in the early post lockdown era and have not returned and are unlikely to do so. Higher labor and food costs combined with lower patronage have probably brought an end to this fairly long-lived chain.

These chains that were popular in the 90's and 00's are really falling out of style, no one wants to eat at them anymore. We have a rotation of 5-6 restaurants we frequent and they're all mom and pop type places, the service is better, the food is better and they're just an overall better value and dining experience.

I haven’t been to a Ruby Tuesdays since I went to one at the end of happy hour and they told me Samuel Adam’s was an import… Yeah, imported from Cincinnati (Boston Brewing Co. was here in the old Hudepohl brewery at the time). They’ve since all closed…

Yes, they built a new one here. First in WA I believe. Isn't it just frozen reheated food? Not really fresh, I believe?

No one goes there because it's too crowded.
There steaks are hand cut....I dont think much of there food is pre frozen....also the reason they are crowded is there food is very good...Your line that no one goes there because its too crowded...does not make sense to me....They are crowded because people like it and go back again to eat...
