While i am not sure, should I assume that the TBN of oil X made up of group I and II would be higher than the TBN of oil Y that is a II III blend to achieve the same results?
I am not sure either. It is my assumption that the additive packages sold by Lubrizol and Oronite to blenders to attain a ILSAC licensed oil for example are designed to work with Grp II-III base oils of a certain Viscosity range.

I believe that Schaeffer's Supreme Blend 5w30 has a TBN of 7-7.5. And that oil is a blend of Group II+ and PAO. Yet it performs real well for the long haul. In my own personal experience their TBN seems to drop quickly but then stabilizes and remains consistent for the remainder of the OCI. In my case it was 10,000 miles in a 2002 Explorer with the 4.0L V-6.
