I've been looking around for a synthetic media oil filter for my BMW and I'm not having much luck. Since Mercedes has synthetic media (aka, fleece) oil filters for extended oil change intervals, and they are made by several companies such as Mahle, Mann and Hengst, I hoped that similar filters might be available for my BMW. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. Amsoil doesn't make one, nor do Mahle, Mann, Hengst, Bosch or any other vendor except for Mobil which has the "synthetic blend" Extended Performance filter. Does anyone know of any other synthetic media filter for BMWs?

I didn't use Fleece filter in my '00 E430, and I think it's over-sold. The OCI is 12-13k/12mo, when I removed the filter it looked like can be used for another OCI.

I just put one in my ML320. It was only a couple of bucks more expensive. I plan to leave the oil in for 15,000 kms.

Neither Amsoil nor RP make one. Amsoil offers a Mann, which is paper. RP doesn't offer any filter.

I think the fleece filters are a gimmick, even though our C300 uses one, too.

BMW has been recommending extended OCIs (up to 15K miles) on regular paper cartridges for years, and I haven't head of any problems associated with these filters. If you're only doing 15k km (9k miles), I'd say a fleece filter is not necessary.

I checked my supplier for German filters, and found nothing for you. I'm in the same boat with my Audi. The newer German cars are pushing the fleece filter. The older ones stick to the paper ones.

I'd suggest you stick with a German made Bosch, Mann, or Mahle, and you should have plenty of life in the paper to go for an extended OCI.

He's in Canada, so Amazon.com won't ship to him. I'm in the same boat. That filter is also a little overpriced. He can get OES filters here in Canada for far less. $10.17 for a Mahle and $8.54 for a Hengst. Hold the phone - I found a Mahle for $6.95.

Thanks for the reply. I looked on the Baldwin website to see if they had any info but I didn't find anything. I did a search and came up with this link which seems to refer to hydroshield media only for fuel filters. Maybe the amazon reference is not correct.

I used to work for a company that had a US office. I could order from Amazon and get it shipped there. No such luck anymore. The joys of living in Canada. To think that some people call us the 51st state. I guess they forgot to tell Amazon and every other company that does business over the internet.
