After hearing people regarding my oil change interval using amsoil series 3000 (six months regardless what milage i have, roughly 7500 miles) im thinking on using synthetic blend instead. Would schaeffers oil be my best option? Ive been reading some uoas on this oil and they seem really good. Also should i stick with the 5W30 or use their 5W40? Redline was used for most of my trucks life then i switched to amsoil. Im thinking schaeffers would be the best bang for the buck in a good way. Thanks. Oh yea i have a 2002 Tacoma V6 with 55K.

Amsoil is a excellent oil,the 300 series can run longer than what you are doing, providing you are useing a good filter,,,,,,,Shaeffers on the other hand can and will do a very good job for you, with the engine and Calif. climate, use the 10w30 7000,,will work fine ,check with site sponsor for a case,,,,,,,,,,BL

Schaeffer's oil sounds like a good choice. The 7000 5w30 would be my choice. And the ever popular Neutra to finish with a smile.

If you are going to stick with the 7500 mile/6month warranty cieling schaeffers is a great value. However it looks like uyou are about out of factory warranty..
Why not just run the S3K for a year? Other than wanting to sample all the candy in the candy store.. which I am guilty of too.

Alan, It takes 6 qts to do an oil change on a 3.4 Taco.

The Schaeffer's 7000 series 5-30 Supreme Blend provided great protection and UOA's on my wife's 2002 4.0 V-6 Explorer, which was NOT driven in "nice" temps and WAS driven hard. Ironically it got basically the same UOA's numbers for 4,100 mile OCI as for a 8,200 mile OCI. This oil is meant for the long haul.

Mobil 7500 is a fine oil and, when I last checked, could be found at Wally World for around $2.00 (the prices have probably since gone up a bit). However, upon examining some UOAs, it is possible that 7500 miles may be a bit long for this oil. Just my thoughts.

We have no proof that Mobil7500 is a PAO blend, i believe it uses group III as its synthetic component ......buyer beware. If you want to get a big laugh call 800-662-4525 and ask what is the synthetic component and see what they say. I guarantee you will not get the correct answer.

Aw geeez, we've been thru all this before!

The ExxonMobil corporate definition of a synthetic fluid does not include Grp III's. If XOM tacks the synthetic blend label on a product, it will indeed include chemically synthesized base oils(read PAO, Ester, Alky Napth's, etc.).

ExxonMobil Synthetic Fluids & Lubricants FAQ

What is the definition of synthetic lubricants?

Synthetic lubricants are manufactured in chemical plants by reacting components and are specifically designed to possess physical and performance characteristics that are superior to mineral oils. As a result, the molecular structure of synthetic lubricants can be precisely arranged to meet, and often exceed, manufacturers’ criteria for high-performance equipment.

How are Group II and Group III base stocks different from Group IV (PAO) stocks?

Group II and Group III base stocks are enhanced mineral oils that are manufactured by a refining and extraction process which partially removes undesirable molecules that are present in the feed. In contrast, Group IV (PAO) base stocks are chemically synthesized and therefore, do not contain undesirable species.
Group II base stocks may be made by hydrotreating, hydrocracking or combinations of solvent processing and hydrogen processing. They have 80 -120 VI with more than 90% saturates and less than or equal to 0.03% sulfur. Group III base stocks are manufactured by hydrocracking and isomerizing slack wax. They generally have more than or equal to 120 VI with more than or equal to 90% saturates and less than or equal to 0.03% sulfur.

i dont know how the amsoil xl line rates but it is an option and is about $3 less per quart. it is a syn blend (i think) and is supposed to be good for 6mo/7500 miles

Schaeffer's 7000 Blend is a great oil. Since you are in a moderate climate, go with the 10w30.

I have had good luck with the 10w30 in Nissan engines that abuse oil.
