syntech or edge, syntech or m1

im a deal buyer, AA has castrol on sale this month, but not edge, and i hate to switch brands, syntech is on a good deal, but not edge, ive never used syntech. ive read posts saying syntech isnt "really a synthetic". I use M1 in my trk and other car and i like it. But edge has been "heavenly" lol in my other car, so im wanting syntech opinions????
Note my last edge oci was 7,900 miles, no consumption

I feel your pain, fortunately I have enough Edge stashed away to wait for the next OC special featuring Edge. I'd probably use Syntec, or better yet look for a deal with PP.

Hey buddy, i have 1.5 quarts edge left so i need 3 more, i found an AA code to take $20 off of $50, called my local AA and asked if i could get the 5qt syntech Bosch D+ for 27.99 and add enough edge to hit $50 and still take $20 off? he said sure thing! so thats my real delima, so basically i can add 3qts edge for like $5, and thats why im curious if syntech is okay

I really like Edge too. But, Syntec may act more like Edge than M1. I would try the Syntec; it is just as much synthetic as M1. A lot of people use and like Syntec. Remember, it is the mother of GC.

How about buying $50 worth of Edge and applying the code? Will that fly? The key is to build a nice stash for times like this. LOL I'm good for about 18 months or three 6 month OCIs.

oh yeah that will more than fly!! but buying the syntech deal and 3 qts edge for $35 is an excellent deal if syntech is on par for an 8k oci, i hate switching brands or oils as it sometimes opens the door for consumption

I hear ya. I like Edge and have been building my stash accordingly. I don't mind spending a little more for the Edge deals, but will only buy it on a deal, or with an AAP code.

I think all of these oils are awfully good. The thing to do is to calculate the cost benefit of a given oil. I have run Syntech in my car and it is good stuff.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the grade which trumps the brand in my book.
Anyway, assuming it's 5w30, I'd go on price, giving the edge (pun intended) to M1 since I know what I'm buying as they have pretty complete PDS.

Does price of these middle of the road synthetics really mean that much? I am by no means well off but even as a teenager I bought the oil I liked and used it.Price really never was a issue to me.Now if it had been a BIG difference in price that would have been different.But a buck or two a quart never did.

hi I have been running castrol oil gtx, gtx hm, now syntec on my 2006 camry v6. great stuff. no oil consumption. I go 10k OCI. no problem.


last week I purchased chevron supreme from costco. $1.83 a quart. They are very fresh. production date 01/17/2011. gf5.

so I will be switch to chevron 0n my next oil change.

If you like Edge 5w30 then I would recommend M1 0w30 AFE. Both are thinner oils compared to Syntec 5w30/0w30.

I've seen evidence first hand that M1 can do 10k plus OCIs and do them excellently. Haven't seen Syntec do as well but it might just be the kind of people who use Syntec

They are all very good oils, but I recently pondered a choice between Edge and M1, and for me, I chose the M1. Either of the 3 would serve you well I am sure!

Delima solved, got my hands on the autozone ad for feb 8th thru mar 7th, 5qts edge and k&n oil filter 32.99, im sure dermapaint will like this
