No.. drop the PP and price PU competitively with the others.


Here the PU is $10-15 cheaper than the others already...and its still not enough to grab my attention away from PP which is another $11 cheaper than that...Sorry but 95% the performance...@ 60% of the price is a win for me...you go ahead though..

woah calm down buddy i put it in bold for ya. my castrol rep had a meeting with the big corporate guys(ive met one of them director of marketing blah blah nice lady). and he said they will be eliminating syntec. and just stick with edge. also said there will be castrol super bowl commercials about it.

i just hope my cost of syn oil doesnt go up. i actually stopped carrying edge due to high price.

I don't think the mainline syn segment is going bye-bye. Castol's prolly up to one of two things: A new Syntec, Or they will just move Edge pricing down to compete with mainline syns M1 and PP. That would be great for consumers as I think Mobil and Pennzoil would soon follow.

I can't imagine option three being the case: Castrol just handing that segment to Mobil and Pennzoil. Just wouldn't make good business sense.

If they did, it would be a VERY foolish move, IMO.

They've put SO much effort into marketing the Syntec name here, it has recognition.

Edge may have recognition over in Europe/Asia, but not here.

If Pennzoil went to all of the expense of dexos 1 qualification for PP, why would they drop it? Please note in the Pennzoil PU thread they replied that they choose to go to market with PP qualified to dexos 1 rather than PU. FWIW --Oldtommy

I am using castro syntec 5w30 on my 2006 camry v6. I like it. It is very quiet, and strong..

this week I bought 5qt jar syntec at walmart for $21. I also bought 12 qt chevron supreme at costco for $21.99.

I never used chevron motor oil before.. I am sure chevron make good product. I like their chevron gas. so next oil change I will be using chevron... I hope everything will turn out great..

The 2 best UOA's I've ever seen on my car's engine (2.3l Direct Injected Turbo that shreds oils) have been Castrol Syntec 5w40. Also as noted GC is legendary. It's tiring to hear people just say ridiculous things about it like that. I've seen plenty of good 5w30 UOA's of it too.

Castrol Syntec UOAs of late have all been fantastic, I would have no problem using it in anything. In fact, I currently have it in the snowblower, I had a quart of 5w30 on the shelf and thought what the hey.
