After all the M1 flap, I have decided to switch to Red Line for my wife's Subaru. My intention is to use an OCI of 7500 miles.

I would appreciate thoughts on this move and also, what oil filter is up to 7500 miles.

I had been using M1 every 5K miles and a OEM oil filter from Subaru.

Thanks guys.

You are not the only one. I have been a loyal Mobil 1 user since the 80's and now, with the price increases, it only makes sense to me to go Redline. With M1 running high $6 and Redline around $7-8, and running 2500 more miles would more than offset the small additional cost....not to mention you know you'd have a better oil that we are assured is synthetic group V.

I say go for it. I probably will too, my Dad uses it and loves it.

Where can you get Redline? I don't like to have to order stuff online. I prefer to buy in a store. Is there any store that will usually carry Redline?

Try your local speed shop.

Redline now makes a ton of sense if you needed or wanted the advertised extreme performance abilities of M1. There are places still selling it well under $8/qt.

But for those that don't need caviar grade oil, might I suggest humble Schaeffers 7000, which (based on the recent GC reports) may now have more PAO in it than M1, but at half the price. It also performs tremendously well. That oil is still the performance/value champ in my book.

I did order Red Line recently for my motorcycle. Used online service and paid $7.95 plus shipping, about $1 a qt.

That seems to be the lowest price I could fine.

Great stuff for an air cooled bike.

There is a company called Roadmaster Transmissions in Schaumburg, Il. that sells it for $6.95 a quart on Ebay. Luckily, they are less than 10 minutes from my work so I can pick it up w/o shipping charges, although I pay 8.75% tax so it is probably a wash. They have just about everything that Redline sells including power steering fluid, gear lube, S1 and even 20W-60. I was planning on stocking up when I found out how cheap they sell Redline for but after talking to them, it appears that is their "normal" price through Ebay or if you walk-in and mention the Ebay price.

Just found out they raised their price within the past week or so to $7.50 a quart. I asked them when I was in there if the price was going to stay the same because I was thinking about stocking up. They said no. Oh, well. Saved me from buying 2-3 cases that would sit in my garage for a couple of years. Still, it is a good deal considering that GC and M1/EP are about $6 a quart.

Use of Redline and the stock oil filter for 7.5K OCI's is do-able and I would stay with that plan. What grade are you planning on using? I do like the Napa Gold/ Wix oil filter...or an Amsoil EaO and I truly believe that you can double the 7.5 K OCI to 15 K with Redline and Amsoil combo. But...if you feel comfortable with 7.5 K thats a good plan.

Redline is stocked by many automotive shops and speed and parts shops...or Summit sells it online.

Well, I would switch but I have a mass of SL 15W50 and 10W30 and even SJ 10W30. I have enough of the old stuff to last quite a while....

I would love to know where I can get Schaeffer's oil at half the price of M1. Let me know who sells it a $3+ a quart, please!!! I would use it in a heart beat at that price delivered over Redline.

BUT...I was quoted $61.92 for a 12 quart case of Schaeffer 5W30 plus $12-15 shipping. That's $6.16 to $6.41 per quart!

$6.41 for a quart for a synthetic blend part of it III? The $7.99 a quart for exotic ester, super moly Redline looks like a better deal. Geeze! Amsoil looks good too and it's locally available.

I need a 5W30 for a high reving performance engine. Since Redline advertise its 5W30 has the film strength of a dino 10W40 or something like that, is that too thick for a new tight tolerance high reving performance engine? I know someone can explain this but it makes me wonder if Redline oils run "too thick". Help me understand this "acts like a w40 dino". Is it going to be harder on the oil pump and bearings? (GC never felt right in a Toyota Truck I once owned, I always thought it was "too thick" ...0W38!

Redline seems to run on the high side of viscosity for many of their weights but I believe what they are referring to is the HTHS and film thickness, which seems to be a lot thicker than the weight rating would suggest, compared to other oils.

They also say you can typically go down one weight. So if you are supposed to use 5w30 you can goto 5W-20. Never did that myself but ran 5w30 in cars and it ran great.

Redline worked great in my 2003 Subaru Outback at 7K to 10K OCI's.

I'm sticking with Redline from now on! I'm mad at Mobil 1, just as mad as I was at Castrol Syntec.

Go information, thank you!
