I bought a 98 Silverado with the 5.7 and 4l60E trans. The previous owner took great care of this thing. The trans shifts great and the fluid is clean. I ordered some Amsoil Universal ATF and plan to switch it over. Any problems with switching a 140K truck to Amsoil? I have records showing regular ATF changes with Maxlife over the past years.

Just hoping I am doing the right thing. I love Amsoil products and currently have all amsoil except trans in the AVEO

Piece of mind for sure. I would do the same, in fact a few times to make sure I have the most concentration of new fluid.

Have you replaced other fluids as well? -Diff, Transfer case, Coolant, Power Steering, Brake fluid?

Have you checked all the belts? Added fuel injector cleaner?

Dont want to do a flush in a 140K Trans so doing the drain and refills will probably be easier on it. I plan to switch it over to Amsoil OIl, grease, and gear oil. It will be all amsoil when I'm done.

Nice, don't neglect the other fluids mentioned above as well. Sounds like you have an awesome truck.

I had the same truck with the 5.7L vortec engine. I really liked that truck. It was easy to work on, torquey and reliable.

I did brakes, belt and spark plugs a few times. LIM gasket, fuel pump, water pump, a couple of O2 sensors and tie rod ends/pitman arm in getting to 180k miles. Also lost an alternator at around 170k miles. Also did trans fluid, T-case fluid and diff fluids every 60k miles. Only thing I thought was unreasonable was the expensive fuel pump at 120k miles and the expensive LIM gasket at around 130k miles. The other stuff was either maintenance or reasonable wear and tear in my books.

Amost forgot about 3 busted outer door handles. Cheap pot metal, but a fairly easy job to fix. At about 180k I replaced the hinge pins and bronze bushings, got rid of the 1/4" sag in the driver's door.

It responded really well to ARX at around 150k miles. Got a significant increase in fuel economy.

I had the same in a 3/4 Ton & 4.10 gears - a powerhouse!

I've done the complete fluid exchange on that one and mine in my signature with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Proceed with confidence.

Bought the truck for $800 in august. guy sold it cheap cause it was rear ended. fixed all that. so far I replaced the intake manifold gaskets, 4 oxygen sensors, a full tune up, royal purple in the diff. new antifreeze when I did the LIM. I also put MMO or lucas in every tank of gas. fuel pump purrs like a kitten. I also just finished installing a flowmaster 50 series muffler and tail pipe to get her breathing. I too have the busted door handles. I want to have this truck for a while so thas the reason I want to switch everything over to amsoil, whom Ive had greats results with in other vehicles. My wife says I take better care of the truck than I do her, shes probably right!

Keep in mind I suggested an exchange NOT a flush. I service transmissions everyday and NEVER use a flush. IMO your working backwards to add amsoil syn to a trans with non syn in it. 6qts is in the pan of your chevy. That does not put a dent in the entire capacity. In the end your goal is to make a complete switch, theres only one right way to do it.

I own a 03 Ford Focus (2.3L) and plan on doing a transmission fluid change in the near future.

Ford specifys using Mercon V ATF

I've been considering either Valvoline, Motorcraft and Amsoil.
The Amsoil product costs more than twice the cost of the Valvoline.

What are your thoughts and suggestions???

Drop the pan and change the filter and install a TransGo Shift Kit and Corvette Servo.

Refill and find a shop that has a low pressure fluid exchange machine and have them run the new Amsoil through it.

Drain and refills are fine if you are using conventional fluid, waste if adding syn to a non-syn filled trans.

On my 1995 K1500 with same trans, I installed a drain plug and drained and refilled with SuperTech DexIII at every engnie oil change! Cheap and effective!
