Switching from Amsoil due to costs

True, but with racing, and me doing the short changes, it isn't worth it probably. I had three races on my last oil change with Amsoil 0-30 and it game out pitch black (never seen Amsoil come out that dark when I have changed it). I know you can't say by color, but that was pretty bad. With 4500 miles on it, that was pushing it. I think PP every 4-6k would be enough depending how much I drive.

Still trying to decide between 5w30 and 10w30. hehe.

Why not just cut back to the XL line of Amsoil. It is a 7500 mile oil. I have had it tested at 12k and was fine. It is still reasonable priced without having to go to something else that may or may not work for ya.

Gotcha....I'd probably lean towards the 5w30. PP is very shear stable. 10w30 would be a bit better though.

Is something wrong with this picture?

PP@ $19 for 5-qt jug a hard bargain to beat! I changed from Amsoil for this reason.

I am considering PP, Castrol Syntec, and M1 again. M1 use to be what I used before Amsoil, but it had issues with startup clatter, etc on my older car. I have a 07 350Z and we have a 09 Murano and 08 Civic EX.

Please give me some recommendations on what I should use and in your opinion what grades? I currently use 5w30 and live in Texas.

The Penzoil Platinum of those options would be my recommendation. I would also suggest Quaker State Horsepower. Another excellent, lower cost option, more readily available than Amsoil.

In response to your other posts in which you talk about changing weight. Living in Texas with all that heat I might try the 10w30 and see how it does.

Do you use the same oil in all three of your cars? Since you track the Z I like the idea of the PP 10w30, especially in Texas, but I'm not crazy about running 10w30 in the 08 Civic.

Why is that? I know Honda engines seem to like lighter oils but why is that? What's different about Honda engines?

I've noticed the same thing. The lower vis. the better in the Honda 2.4L. Probably the low torque nature of the engine and low HT/HS.

Wish we did my friend...only the common AutoZone, Oreileys, Napa, etc

The Murano got Chevron Supreme 10w30 in it for it's first oil change. It's due for one now actually and will probably get PP. The Honda gets Amsoil 5w20 currently till stock runs out of that.

Thanks for all the help guys so far. Looks like PP 10w30. On my way to Wally World at lunch to pick up some stock. :)

+1

Valvoline Synpower has $10 mail in rebate for a case of 6 quarts, it is the best choice for the $.

Can't seem to find it, so I'm gonna ask.

Where do you get this deal?

Thanks-
