I loved these last two comments:
The other possibility is that the missile was launched unintentionally. It may have been a screwup. Someone may have simply punched the wrong button.
Another possibility, it would be sophisticated launch just to create a spectacular site in the sky.
This would be a pretty darn expensive fireworks show.

I am not an expert by any means, but if it was something "big and professional", wouldnt it have gone more or less straight up? It seemed to move with a horizontal motion farily early on in the launch. Id think that would mean it was staying within the atmosphere. That means short range, and all that.
If it was a terrorist practicing shooting a shoulder fired device, would that have gone so far and created such a trace behind it?
Obviously seems bigger than a hobby rocket...

It looks like it was a medium to large sized missle or rocket, potentially an ICBM, launched from a submarine.

It would be impossible to "accidentally push teh wrong button". These things have numerous interlocks, including keys. It would be simply impossible to just lean on it and launch a missile.

No one will listen to me regarding this and most other "rocket launches", and that might as well be the best thing to happen but, these are NOT rockets. I've been paying close attn to this op since I really started taking it seriously in '06 and that my friends, is an aerosol dump. It has nothing to do with defense (other than military execution), but instead climate modification. The craft used to expel these aerosols have only gotten bigger and more exotic in the, oh, 20+ years of the program. Aerosol dumps like this make chemtrail jets look like kids' toys. You have to bear in mind that what you're looking at is extremely high up- like tropopause and higher which should give you an idea of the scale... Some of them appear rainbow-like when their constitution includes things like ethylene dibromide and other polymers. Some of them occur so high up, that even though sun has set on the ground, they will still remain in the sun's aspect and appear illuminated- this particular technique is being used much more as of late. The most common aerosols used contain nano Al, Ba, Sr, which are highly refractive, hygroscopic and not least dramatically increase the electrical conductivity of the atmosphere which helps propagate artificial energy injections from ionospheric heaters like HAARP and DEWs mounted to geosynchronous orbiting sats. These dumps most commonly occur off the coasts to pick up massive amounts of moisture to be used to substantiate weather systems which, as you all may know, are now transcontinental. Depending on the manner in which the aerosols and their attached moisture are manipulated (directed with the use of high-power energy devices) and the sun, moisture can be "held up" with in the atmosphere causing places below to be kept extremely hot and humid (and HAZY) or precipitation can be triggered. California is, no question, one of the most active centers of this black op, with honourable mentions to the Oklahoma, North TX area and maritime Canada (let's not even talk about Mexico!). It's huge all over the world, esp. Asia, but I only really truly know North America as these are the satellite images I keep my eye on. If people notice them, they will always be 'admitted' to be rocket launches from nearby AF bases. It's called ENMOD. Get to know it.
