The short of it. 2002 CR-V was running PP 5w-20, switched to SynPower at 7,500 / 139,000. Much less startup noise. I have always been doubtful when reading that an individuals vehicle preferred one quality lubricant over another. For the skeptics, sometimes good to try new things.

SynPower is still an oil I want to try, it just NEVER goes on sale anywhere here. I also want to try the green bottle.

For the record, PP 5w20 works good in my Civic's 1.8L.

are you sure it wasnt a bad oil filter ADBV? That usually has the most to do with the startup noise.

Did you use a different oil filter, since a change in filter seems to be the consesus source of cure here?
Was this noise always present, or only on your last run?
Could have been a filter with a bad ADB "valve".
It happens.
Now, we've run many miles in half a dozen Hondas over the years, and none of them ever seemed picky about oil filters, so I don't know.
Is the Synpower thinner at your start-up temperature?
Could be, and I'm too lazy to try to find out, since Valvoline has deleted the PDS links from its site.
Synpower does seem to provide very smooth running in the Forester, so it could maybe be the oil.
IDK.

When you mention "less startup noise", do you mean, "startup rattle", such as an oil filter not holding the oil over night?
Or, timing chain rattle/dry start? (due to the same filter issue)

Or do you mean that your engine is quieter at idle apon startup?

I just did my first change in a '12 Elantra. Factory fill was QSUD 5W20 with obviously OEM Hyundai filter. I was getting a noise at startup like in this youtube video:

Elantra startup noise

Elantra forum users passed this off as a servo that runs at startup, but first change was Synpower 5W20 with Fram XG and no more startup noise.

Next change will be PP 5W20 with Bosch D+ but if the noise comes back I'll be going back to Synpower/XG combo. Car really seems to be running smoothly on it.

I am not trying to be smart, or stir up a bee`s nest here, but cant you all just accept the fact that maybe....just maybe, his car like`s the Synpower better?

Synpower has given me the best results in uoa's in my focus and altima. Great oil. Hopefully valvoline will get all the silly love someday that pennzoil now enjoys. And M1 used to enjoy. The only reason pennzoil enjoys the "silly love" right now is their pricing. It's in the middle now creeping up. When it started it was one of if not the lowest priced full syn OTC. OTC full syns will do the exact same thing in your motor. lubricate, hold matter in suspension, and last for 7500 miles.

Then there would be not story to tell and the subject would be meaningless.

Just kidding! I'd love to find my perfect oil and although I buy oils held in high regard here at Bob's, I do get them all on the cheap.
