Hi BITOG Members,

I am curious to see if anyone has any recent updates on the SuperTech ST4967 oil filter? Mostly used in Toyota applications, and I'm sure a few other marques.

I see they go for $3.84 each in my area and appears to be of great value. Looking for recent updates or opinions on recent build quality. I run 0W20 SuperTech oil, and alternate between Mobil 1 when the price is about the same as SuperTech. Thanks!

This is the first ST filter I think I've ever purchased to be honest. Better late than never..🤔

I like everything about it. Appears to have metal end caps to boot (not fiber caps). Nylon ecore center and feels like a good weight for a small filter.

Going on another Japanese brand...my rebuilt 33 yr old Kawasaki. Excellent value.👌

Ah, that explains the MP4967. I tried looking at a handful of stores and was unable to locate them or have them shipped.

Any clues for the ST4967 as to who manufactures it? Thanks!

Thank you for sharing that. I am not very familiar with them. Are they a well-known manufacturer with consistent quality? (My assumption is yes.)

When one claims "X filter will cause less wear" proof of it's ISO tested efficiency is in order...
People mention that less efficient filters (regardless of brand/model) don't keep the oil as clean (with all other factors held constant), which can mean some added wear over the long run - especially as the OCI gets longer and longer. It's been talked about many times, with info from controlled in the field wear studies. I suggest some self reteach since you haven't seemed to see the discussions here. If you don't believe dirtier oil causes more wear, then I really don't care. The technical info is shown, and people can ponder it as they wish, and can believe that dirtier causes less wear if they want, lol.

A word of caution as High efficiency can be problematic on small-form factor spin ons.

Has filter media area decreased over the past few decades? - Yes

Have we witnessed - first hand - torn pleats on mixed media filters? - Yes

Are some OEM filters medium efficiency? - Yes

Does ISO 16889 multi-pass filter assessment add gum and varnish to the test oil? - No

Fun Facts for Thought

I suggest that instead of you sarcastically referencing spec sheets in a topic that was asking about a particular filter, that I went out of my way to post photos of, to be on topic instead of not being helpful. This thread is asking about ST4967.. Do you have information to provide OP about this ST4967 filter or do you just want to be argumentative w/my previous references about "Spec Sheets", along w/other nonsense you make up about me in this thread?

Hi folks,

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their replies as I always appreciate the knowledge and wisdom shared by the community.

I should put it out there, the use case for this particular oil filter is for a 2017 Toyota Corolla iM with a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine and CVT transmission. This is my daily driver where it sees a combination of in-city stop and go traffic, and highway/freeway driving.

The factory manual suggests changing the 0W20 oil every 8000KM (approximately 5000 miles) or 6 months, whichever comes first. I have owned the vehicle since brand new and have always followed this guidance. I may deviate by changing the oil below 8000KM, or at 5 months, depending on personal circumstances. This car has treated us VERY well, and I am a firm believer it comes with the care and maintenance we invest into the vehicle. I expect to be driving the vehicle a bit more this year, so this means increased oil changes. :)

With that being said, our local Toyota dealers have been quite inflexible when it comes to cost of factory filters and general service. The prices have gone up, and so has their service, including oil etc. I can wrench, and would prefer to do my own oil changes. I am simply looking for input from members who have experience with SuperTech filters as a cost-effective solution for an oil filter replacement, and whether this is a product that is known to be good, reliable, and most importantly, cheap (You can't always have all three!) Prior to considering SuperTech for filters, I had used a combination of factory Toyota or WIX oil filters. Both are now no longer competitive, from a price standpoint (I know, I am penny pinching here) so I am asking fellow enthusiasts for guidance.

I am aware of my low post count, but have been following the forums long enough to understand how to read the room when it comes to sarcasm and humour among members. I quite enjoy the camaraderie, so please continue posting and sharing. Thanks :)

You are gung ho with the "you need a Spec Sheet" premise, so I'm simply asking where's the Spec Sheet for this ST filter you bought. Yes, I have information about the ST4967 ... the efficiency is claimed to be 99% @ 30u (better than the USCAR-36 minimum specs), if the OP is interested in filter efficiency - good enough for relatively short OCIs of 5K or less. Thought you said you don't use any filter unless there's a specific Spec Sheet. It's obvious you use the Spec Sheet thing to try and discount filters that you don't like, but let it slide when it's filters you use or like. As far as the filter efficiency related oil cleanliness and wear, I still suggest you do some self research on the subject matter.

You've proven that you don't mind derailing threads about off topic nonsense that isn't true about me. In order to not get this thread shut down w/petty bickering, send me a PM instead, if you're that intrigued w/my position.
