I saw a supertech oil filter for the the ford powerstroke at Wal-Mart today. It was constructed a little different than the motorcraft 1995. It was $3.30 cheaper than the 1995. Does any one have any info on this filter?

Uh, how expensive is a PowerStroke diesel engine????

Why anyone would even think about saving a couple of dollars per oil filter for such a beast boggles my mind.

I have a Powerstroke equipped F350. I bought a number of Motorcraft FL1995 filters a while back and my supply is getting low (only two left).

I was recently checking out the SuperTech equivalent and I wouldn't hesitate to use that filter. Upon visual inspection it is built tough and given the decent reputation of the Supertech line I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't buy the line about how expensive the motor is. How many people probably use Frams on this engine. Go for it. I'm planning on trying one when I run out of FL1995 filters

If I remember correctly a Motorcraft 1995 is a huge filter with threads that you could fit an egg through? HUGE!!! In my opinion a Motocraft filter is generally as good as filters that cost twice as much, and a Supertech is more of a "get what you pay for (decent) filter. Im not that familiar with diesels, but you run something like 14 quarts of oil right? So I think the drain interval is longer than the usual 3000 miles. Id just use the motorcraft. Especially if you want to keep that truck for X00,000 miles.

Thanks for the responses. I understand peoples theories on cheap filters on expensive engines. I also read on this forum that a lot of the supertech filters are as good as others that cost more. If the supertech is as good as the motorcraft 1995 why spend the extra money. I sweat to earn my dollars, I just want to buy the best quality filter at the best price. Thanks again.

Lots of brand loyality when it comes to filters. I personally love supertechs and use them all the time on everything I own.

The Supertech is cheap right? Buy one and open it up. Take a look at the internal parts and then you can make a more informed decision. I did that for the FL-820S equivalent, but not until after I had used it a couple of times. I was fine with most of the filter, except for the rubber adbv (as apposed to the silicon on the motorcraft) and the VERY THIN & FLIMSY center tube. I made the decision to either use the Motorcraft or the Wix/NAPA Gold from now on.

Why not try the same comparison? It only would cost you 2 bucks.

Both filters are good. Use which ever one you feel comfortable with. Their both better than the orange one.
