Supertech dino

I think that the is a VOA or 2 on ST oil but Im not sure if it's the Mobil or WPP. I don't think that it's the same as MC5000. It's an OK oil that will get the job done somewhere between 3000-5000 mile OCI. Most of the time your better off looking for a sale/rebate on a name brand oil as this is what most people here at BOB's try to do. If there isn't any oil/filter sales going on in your area, then ST oil is fine. But you probably already knew this!

When comparing two oils, when all else is the same (price, quantity), I'd take the name brand oil over the private label.

We do know that NAPA oil is made and bottled by Ashland/Valvoline.... but it falls short of being the same oil that is bottled and sold as Valvoline's own products.

It is probably on par or close to their Mobil Clean bulk oil instead of the better Clean 5000 line if its made by Mobil. Its good for 3-4k in most modern engines.

SuperTech is good oil...you should have no problem running 5k miles per change...on the other hand, PYB and other brand name conventionals are usually only 2-3 dollars more...

I ran SuperTech dino in my old Ford Ranger. I bought the truck with 100k, and ran nothing but SuperTech oil, and fram or Supertech oil filters. I sold the truck with a hair under 200k and it still ran like a champ. All I ever did was change the oil and filter at 4k.

Is SuperTech the same thing as Mobil Clean 5000? No. Does it need to be? My Ranger would say no. Do I think think there is some merit to running the Mobil Clean 5000? Sure do. Honestly, just do yourself a favor and find whatever motor oil is on sale, and use it (unless you have a very specific need from the motor oil). I am currently running Phillips 66™ Trop Artic in both my F150 (163k) and my Cavalier Z24 (98k) simply because 12 quarts for $22.00 was too good of a deal to pass up. I previously ran SuperTech in my Z24 and Motocraft synthetic-blend in my F150.

At the end of the day, if you just keep up on regular maintence (fluids, filters, spark plugs, etc) and keep it clean, the vehicle will last much longer than you can probably imagine.

It's not the same as MC5000. However it is likely either the same or real close to Exxon Superflo.

I'd run it with confidence. I wish my walmart sold the Exxon/Mobil Supertech. I'd be all over that.

I've used it in a few of my cars. Even way back when it was called Tech2000. No problems whatsoever. As long as you change the oil in a reasonable interval, it'll do just fine.

How did you arrive at Mobil being your bottler of Super Tech in Ohio?

That seems to be correct, that Exxon just rebadges the Superflo for Wally's.

Oddly enough, the Walmarts in my area of Ohio have been switching over to XOM in the last year as well. We used to be all WPP, but the bottles are identical to the new Mobil Clean 5000 bottles, and no longer have the WPP on the bottom, so looks like it was a regional shift in the Ohio area.

Not sure what Hemi426 is basing his opinion on, but Walmart oils by both XOM and WPP have both proven to be fine for 3-5k via the UOA's posted here, so you will not have any problem.

If the ST here was bottled by XOM, i'd be all over it. After the Gear Oil problem wally land had, I dont trust warren.

Exactly! I wish we had ST XOM oil in the South. I won't use Warren. If I could use Napa dino (lower version of Val dino) for 5k oci's with no issues, then I could use XOM ST dino too.

What is "XOM" is that the marking on the bottom of the bottle? The couple bottles I checked here all have the WPP logo on the bottom (florida).

No need of looking in the South. Only WPP provides the oil in the Southern states. Some of the NorthEast states are luck to get the XOM oil.

Here in PA the super tech dino bottles in my area all look like the mobile clean 5000 quarts and the MC5K 5 quart jugs. Don't know if that means anything but the high mileage and synthetic are in bottles that have WPP on the bottom of the bottle. I would assume that if you purchase the dino its blended by Exxonmobil and if you buy HM or Synthetic your getting WPP blended products.

Not always true in Motor oils. Currently at $10 a jug, Qauker State green bottle is right on par with its higher competitors such as Valvoline, Pennzoil and Castrol at higher prices. I would even bet the margin between full synthetic and conventionals is pretty close now days too at reasonable oil changes. "Most" of the synthetics at Walmart werent designed with extended oil change intervals in mind anyhow, so it even narrows it more. Your just paying more for the synthetic and your favorite flavor.
