i've done a lot of reading here, but not much posting. i've got a 94 Accord with 217k on the clock. i've only had it for ~11k and i've used Cam2 SuperPro 10w-40 with a Purolator PureOne filter each change. i recently put 3 bottles of Lucas fuel conditioner through using it every other fillup. it seems a little smoother on cold start and the throttle response is noticeably better. so being that some cleaning on the fuel side showed signs of improvement, i thought a cleaning on the air side might be in order. i'm looking at SeaFoam, Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner & Amsoil Power Foam (APF). i figure any of the 3 would be suitable for this application but i thought i'd ask to see if anybody has used these products and noticed better results with any particular brand. thanks.

howdy, I have used seafoams DEEP CREEP, on a nasty carb, and on a lawnmower that was left for dead in ditch. I had good results, it cleaned them up, and now both run.
correction, not a carb but a throttle body that was nasty. an 1989 jeep.

When people wake up and start posting this morning they may say something about the Lucus you are using. Let me see if I can find that thread........

Unsure what it is you now want cleaned. You have used a cleaner via the fuel system and that cleans the injectors and combustion chamber. Possibly your throttle body is dirty? In that case you need to go to a parts store and get a spray can of throttle body cleaner, disconnect part of your air intake and spray at the throttle body directly (read directions).

Most fuel treatments will give you a temporary power/drivability increase until the fuel trims realign themselves due to better spray patterns. Starting/rough idle/pinging will be improved if shorter trip driving is your daily drive due to deposit removal. There's probably enough UCL content to some fuel treats to change drivability over the use of tank.

I have used MMO in the fuel for 30 years. I add, as the bottle says, 4 oz. for every 10 gal. of fuel. I do this every 4-5 tanks of gas. I've never had deposit problems that I know of.

Lucas UCl upper cylinder lubricant and fuel injector cleaner is very weak.
I have tried a lot of it, with no benefits in idle or cleaning .
I'll never use it again, and it it expensive. Mostly just motor oil.

Try a tank or two of a GOOD cleaner, like a strong Chevron Techron or Redline SI-1.

I bought the big bottle of Lucas UCL for use in my ancient Town Car and it didn't do jack squat, and I added it at every fill-up for about 2 months until the bottle was gone. I hope those upper cylinders enjoyed the extra slickum, because I've spent my last dime on that particular Lucas product.

I'm going back to Berryman's or Techron, two that I personally have seen marked improvements with on multiple cars, though just for kicks I may grab some Regane based on this and other threads here at BITOG.

I did add some MMO to my crankcase, also based on this site's general opinion, and the early results are so unnervingly good I don't think I quite believe them yet. I'll write a thread once I'm convinced.

Psst!! Donald!! That's PEA

mostly just looking for a cleanup of the TB through to the injectors. i hadn't considered a manual scrubbing of the TB yet. i guess i could just work that with some 2+2 and a nylon brush. i'll have to pickup some MMO for the crankcase next time i have to top off. and then since i'll have the MMO on hand i'll work a few tanks of gas with it and see what happens. thanks for all the input everyone.

a parting question: will the internal cleaning by the MMO be strong enough that it'll make my existing multiple oil leaks any worse? maybe i should skip the crankcase and just focus on the fuel side?

Forget the MMO. The only mystery about it is why people still use it. Its only good for one thing, pouring it down the spark plug holes of engines that have been sitting for year or may have gotten water in there (common in marine engines where exhaust manifold is water cooler).

There is nothing going through the TB except air, so nothing added to the gas tank will help.

One option is a can of Amsoil Power Foam cleaner. You spray the entire can down the air intake while car is running and turn car off, wait a while and drive to blow out deposits. (read directions).

Gary - are the Amsoil products like PI PEA based? Do you agree that the Amsoil Power Foam should clean the TB?

Get a good TB cleaner and clean the TB. Then run a tankful or two of Redline Fuel System cleaner through the gas. When you've finished change the oil.

MMO works well to clean the engine if you add it to the oil. Added to gas it will keep your injectors clean and works well as a top oil. It is not designed to be a stand alone FI cleaner, which is why I suggested the RL cleaner.

MMO could cause your engine to leak if it is gunked up and the gunk is creating a false seal. It does help seals, but since I don't know the internal condition of the engine there is a possibility it will leak worse. It could also leak worse for a while and then slow down. Coin toss. You could try a HM oil after the MMO clean up.

Edit to add:
Not sure if the Honda has an IAC if it does clean that too.
