First of all, this car is a beauty. It is by far the smoothest and most comfortable ride I've ever driven.

To my point...

My dad loves his car and follows the manual maintenance, running 5k oci. Problem is, the dealer charges quite hefty for the service and "inspection". I drove his car yesterday and noticed that he only has 15k miles on it over the past 3 years... I haven't even hit 1 year and I'm at close to 17k with my Sonata. His car felt a little choppy in terms of acceleration so I figured I need to dump in a bottle of Regane. While at that, I'm going to change out his oil. For a driver like him who does less than 5k mi/yr, dino should be good right? As long as it's kept within 6mo? Or should I go for synthetic and push it to 1 year?

I was thinking of using FS 5w-20 (manual states to use 0w-20 but CA certainly doesn't freeze) that's on sale at Pepboys.

I would go 1 year OCI with synthetic. The easiest 0W20 you can find anywhere is M1, looking at M1 website you will see that 0W20 is better than 5W20, mainly for higher VI. For the same price I would choose 0W20 above 5W20.

Choppy acceleration? Sounds like it needs an Italian tune-up

Did you buy it at Riverside Manheim auction? If not, why to be cheap with a luxury car maintenance? It is still on warranty, is it not?
Techron is the only additive I would reluctantly agree to.

M1 AFE 0w20 is a solid choice. Could easily go a year. The Toyota-branded 0w20 is great too, and priced competitively.

I'd maybe opt for the Redline SI-1 if you can, though Regane and Techron Concentrate are both proven products too.

You got me there. Guess I'll have to pick up a few of the M1 deals going on at AZ. M1 AFE 0w-20 sounds delicious.

No love for Techron?!! You're a first. Can you tell me why? I have Techron, V-Power, Regane, and Valvoline Fuel Injector Cleaner.

And the choppiness is from the small jerk feeling when I give it a little more gas. When I first drove it, it accelerated so smooth that I didn't even know I was reaching unsafe speeds.

I wouldn't just start dumping fuel injector cleaner in a high end car, that's a great way to cause problems.

Also use whatever oil Lexus specs, if they say 0w20, 0w20 it is.

The hesitation might be transmission related, has it ever been back to the dealer for a re flash? Doesn't that car have the 8spd?

I just cleared up a choppy excelleration from my Lexus RX-300 by using a strong dose of GUMOUT All-in-One/Regane(20oz treats up to 30gal's). I have a 20gal tank.

The CEL went on during this time(System too lean) as it does anytime I put in any fuel system cleaner(FSC), I don't know why but, it does. Cleared the code by pulling the fuse(ECU-B & EFI) and now, 2 weeks later the excelleration is where it's supposed to be. I have been complaining to myself about the excelleration but now, all is O.K.!

Anytime I have to clear a code or if I do a battery disconnect for whatever reason, only after about 2 weeks do I knotice that everything with the engine(any vehicle that I own), seems to fall into place, excelleration, idle, cruising, transmission shifting etc. It's as though the car had a little bit of a cold(nothing anyone else would notice) and now it's feeling better!
