so im in the process of pulling my motor and replacing it with one from japan.

im unsure what that motor ran or how long it sat. so im thinking of a flush before peak global, rl water wetter, subaru conditioner, distilled water.

what should i do? just the straight water? 50/50 vinegar water solution? commercial flush?

this is in a 220k wrx

I figure a flush is for tighter passages like heater core, radiator, etc.

The engine should be fine.

But if something got in the coolant system under the watch of your old motor, then let's talk flushing.

If it's above freezing, I'd start and break in the new old motor on plain water just in case a leak starts and you won't waste money or make an environmental mess.

Question born out of the accumulation of mixed info and garbage in my mind: Will Peak Global jibe chemically with what Subaru coolant should be? I ask because I'm under the impression Subarus (and Hondas) are picky and unforgiving when it comes to coolants. Kira

Were this mine, I'd add Subaru coolant and a bottle of the Subaru coolant conditioner and leave it at that.

Whether you flush or not, what's your reason for using water wetter? unless you're adding it to distilled water only for racing purposes, I'm not sure I understand why.

Extra security. It gets hot in Oklahoma..

From what i read. Peak global is fine. Non silicate like OEM. And half price. I live 50 miles from dealer.

Old motor used prestone green. There is some sign of corrosion.

I don't believe Water Wetter and similar products are designed to be used in conjunction with fully formulated coolants. I would be cautious. Others here have talked about difficulties.

I used Water Wetter in my old '97 Legacy GT and it only produced some odd discoloration of the fluid in the overflow tank. I don't believe (speculation) that Water Wetter provides any benefits in other-than-racing applications, when coolant is used.

Good luck with the engine, and post an update when you've got it in service, please!

Still need uppipe,downpipe,turbo inlet
And replacement motor..

I only used Subaru coolant and the Subaru coolant conditioner. One of our summers that I had the 2005 LGT (2.5L DOHC Turbo) we clocked over 90 days over 100F. Never an issue on the track, on the road, or in heavy MoPac traffic with no clean or cool air.

I remember seeing a Subaru of America TSB on coolant. This TSB included a chart indicating freeze protection and which included a statement that OEM change intervals could safely be used with as little as 37% Subaru OEM coolant. Certainly where I live and go on vacation, I'm not likely to face anything subzero and I could probably use 40%. Occasionally I've added water and tested my coolant to be at least 40%.

Doesn't it hit freezing every winter?

Skip the water wetter with anti freeze, I hear too much about gunk being produced unless used with water only. Of course ymmv, but the small benefit isn't worth the larger risk of cooling contamination in a healthy system.

That's the real problem. There's nothing wrong with the product, but you never know when you're mixing things. It can be bad enough to mix two incompatible coolants, let alone tossing a niche additive in there, too.

So my heater hoses crack when squeezed... Making me think a nice layer of junk has formed. So rethinking flush?

..there is no gunk lining the inside of the hoses..cracking sound means that it is time to exchange the hoses for new ones..

All of the prestone flushing products use citric acid I think. You could use one of the those or just straight vinegar. Either one will eat any scale away without harming much else.

Also don't fall into the T6 hype...it is not needed. You will blow ringlands or a piston with bad tuning before you have an oil issue.
