I went to adjust the headlights in my girlfriend's Grand Am today and followed the Hayne's manual I just bought. I went to turn the torx screws closest to the fender on the driver's side, as the manual said was supposed to adjust horizontally (actually adjusted vertically!)

I got that light adjusted to the best of my ability, and moved on to the passenger side, which was extremely out of whack. I went to turn the plastic screw on that side, and it snapped right off! Now I can't adjust that side, and it's still very out of alignment. Grr... why did they use cheap little plastic torx screws?!

I remember the headlights on my mom's Malibu were out of alignment right from the factory. It took the dealership ~3 tries to get it "right"

The brights on that car still hardly work, they actually make the road more dim than the low beams.

I guess that explains why I notice so many GMs with uneven looking headlight beams. They seem like one is aimed straight down at the road and the other glare oncoming traffic.

Hers were kind of cross-eyed looking when she got it. The right light seemed to be pointing into the opposing lane of traffic. Unfortunately I wasn't able to adjust that light because of this setback

You don't want the road lit up more, you want it lit up further.

It's time for some macgyvering. I used those little foam donuts you find on the bottom of a spindle of CD-Rs stuffed in an appropriate spot to bring a headlight around.

If you have a spring tugging on a corner of your headlight, that's usually where you stuff the stuff.
