My definition is high speed driving is continuous 90 mph for few hours. Seems M1 AFE have good review but the flash point is much lower than M1 EP.

Based on SDS posted last fall … M1 EP had twice the PAO over M1 AFE …

Exactly..but I am not sure if M1 EP 5w20 is considered stronger than M1EP 0w20 ?

As much as I like Redline, but seems 10k OCI on humid weather seems pushing hard for Redline, even though the manufacturer promote long drain. I am not sure if anyone has hard evidence otherwise

I am only looking for particular 0w20, and not all brand 5w30 is better than full syn 0w20

If you want a pseudo 20 go with the redline.

Hard driving showing above 120C sump temps require higher HTHS.

I would amend your favourite Xw20 with ~20% sump replacement Xw30 of same brand/spec.

This is called viscosity tailoring.

It is done by those who are in tune with their engines performance and professional builders for competition.

Monitor all aspects of performance and adjust amendment accordingly from your readout.

So far on average the Shell Helix Professional 5w30 seems producing higher temperature compared to M1 EP 0W20.
It has not exceed 110 C for the oil sump temperature

In which car? 90mph for a 1L NA engine spinning at 5k is working the oil hard. 90 with a 5L V8 at 2800 rpm is nothing to worry about.

Car is 2l NA, but with the CVT it may hit 3500 rpm when road is not perfectly flat

Plenty of good advice here. I'm currently running M1 AP 0w20 in my 2018 Jeep. It sees all kinds of driving, including off-road crawling in high ambient temperatures.

Why are you stuck on a watered down 0W20?? If its high speed driving and even a remotely powerful engine, move up to a viscosity that will protect it!! You aren't worried about economy obviously so why use a CAFE spec'd oil?

Tired argument

As always, without UOA it’s all a big guessing game. I’m not sure that a quality full syn 0W20 wouldn’t be able to handle it just fine if the engine was built to take it in the first place (as in Toyota or Honda). Jumping to a higher weight and/or HTHS oil might be doing nothing but wasting gasoline!

Agreed

Although I don't think you could tell any difference in any good 0w20, because there are so many stand outs. Valvoline new formula is strong, Castrols Edge is VERY good, but I would say TGMO is probably the stoutest 0w20 out there right now.

Judging by your comments, it doesn't appear like you have trouble getting any brand/types of oil you want?
I guess I am ignorant, but I thought, seeing your location, it might be hard to be choosy when it comes to differing brands?

Personally, I would go with Shell/Pennzoil products that match your requirements.

With an HTHS of 2.9 that's basically a 30 weight oil in a bottle that calls it a 20 weight.

No, it meets the viscometric requirements of a 20 grade.

I know that, but it's almost a 30 weight even by that measurement too. And I bet the oil pressure in the engine would be virtually identical to what you'd see running a thin 30 weight. So for all intents and purposes, I was correct.

Because the car is recommended to use 0w20 globally (not only in US), and higher 30 has been proven dull the acceleration and fuel economy.

It seems that most 0w20 to be fine, and the availability and cost may play bigger role. I have good experience with PU but seems they have LSPI issue, and need to find the one with dexos 1 gen 2 label.

I do extended distances in high heat at what you would consider high speeds with both M1 EP 5w20 and Edge EP 5w20 with UOA's from both at around 10k or so. I've also sent off a sample of SuperTech 5w20 to see how it holds up. Can post the UOA's I have now if needed.

Would glad to see that if you don't mind to post it.
