Stopped at the Red Wing Shoe store today....

Best pair of relatively dressy shoes I ever owned were Red Wings. They had them on clearance. That was back in the mid-90s. Never bought Red Wing again because of price. Now I pretty much get New Balance running, walking, or cross training shoes. Can usually get for around 50 - 60 bucks. Lot of nice cushioning.

It was Red Wing though that gave me my true shoe size. They had a machine you stick you foot into and it measured your foot. All those years I wore 12s and would get toe jam (actually jammed toes), Red Wing said size 13 and that's what I have been wearing ever since. Toes feel a lot better.

Tanning leather is an enviro nightmare. One might feel better if most of the value was added stateside, and containers full of chinese leather were all we were importing. Naturally I bet they do a bit more before it gets here.

My Justins are made in China. That's a bit comical. My Redwings are made in the USA. Don't know if that's changed since I bought them or not. But maybe it's b/c they are firefighting boots....

They've just about become impossible to find.

Good work Bob, glad they work for you.

It depends on the style you prefer but Danner and White's still make boots in the US, although Danner does have some imports.
Duluth Trading sells a made in USA wedge soled boot like the traditional red wing contractor boot.

The most comfortable work boots I've owned were carhartt, sadly made in china. Bates military boots have also been good to my feet.

White's have a reputation as being, hand's down the best wildland firefighting boots. But they're dang expensive, too.

I bought a pair of Red Wing boots last week; model #606 to be exact. My feet are in some serious pain; downed a whole bottle of Motrin tonight. $184.63 down the drain.

Wow. I was the real tightwad at my old job. I tore through too much leather with the chemicals that we invariably encountered (or just plain water) ..so I settled for the hot and cold rubber Beta (the old sneaker company) industrial high boots. I had to cut a V in the back of them to get them to fit my calves. $25 every 6 months. I just couldn't destroy leather and dollars for the sake of an extra pair of socks. They appear out of business now.
