Have been reading about stainless steel mesh oil filters. Claim to have low restriction, filter to about 30 microns, and are cleanable.
I like the idea of just cleaning it reusing it. Good for the environment.
Anyone here used them?
What were your results?
Thanks.

The stainless mesh filter is all that is used in gas turbine (jet) engines. They only spec the best filtration for those engines.

No, not the 'best', just very precisely filtered to a specific particle size.

I am no fan of any filter that passes particles that large.

and the price is not very good either. the last i saw they were $90! you can get like 22 MotorCrafts filters for that.

A regular filter is made from recycled paper or recycled cotton fibres.

stainless steel filters are an awesome filter.they have been on my vehicles for a very long time and work great!!! don't have to worry about the [censored] paper filters people use and all there problems bits of paper found in oil gallies and cams...these filters filter 100% 35u...all paper filters will let up too40-200u of dirt in the engine what do you expect from a 2-8 bucks filter.... these filters are tested at 17u...tom slick says it all!!! we also use theseon our pro mods with 80lb boost...scca uses them too..k&p makes the very best!!! i change oil and clean filter every oil change..

No,man. I want a new filter with each oil change. I just take all the old oil and filter to Pep Boys and they recycle.

Well, recycling useful resources is good, but never using raw materials to make something is even better.

It costs a lot of energy and time to make, say, 10 oil filters, plus the time and cost recycling them, much more than it does to make a single reusable filter. Assuming that the reusable one can only be used 10 times. And even then, steel is very recyclable, and when a stainless steel filter reaches the end of its usable life, it can be remade into something else, too.

I think we Americans have gotten too used to cheap, disposable convenience.
