Anyone ever repair some stipped spark plug threads in a cylinder head? On the vehicle? What'd you use?

Mine just came out, it's on an '01 Civic, and the plug is way down in there.

A couple of companies make a spark plug repair kit, perma-coil comes to mind. Check your local NAPA for availability, or if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, your local mechanic can do this type of repair without too much difficulty.

Problem is keeping the chips out of the cylinder when doing an on-engine fix.
Grease in the flutes of the tap works, but I'd leave it to an
experienced mechanic.

Well I asked the Honda dealer, and they said they use the Heli coil solid insert. So I picked one of those up, and ordered a coil.

It's on a '01 Civic, coil on plug. Aparently the plug came out, and destroyed the coil and the spark plug. So even if I get this thread fixed, there's a good chance part of the plug went inside the engine, as the electrode of the plug is gone.

Going to try to repair the thread now.

Can you fish that out with a magnet or something? Could be sitting right on top of the piston. Or has the engine turned over since the plug was damaged?
Some of the gurus on the TDI forum actually use cameras in cases like this. Hope it works out for you.

It was ran for quite some time before the engine just died.

I blew compressed air in the spark plug hole, and some coiled wire looking things came out. And while looking in there with a flash light, and blowing air, I couldn't see anything moving around. So I believe everything is out. Whether or not it took out a valve seat, or bent a vavle is yet to be determined.

The thread repair seemed to go very well. I'm just waiting on the coil to see if the thing runs okay.

Heli Coils are an old standard, but care and knowledge must be used.
There are modern fix kits at the auto parts store that can be better and more foolproof.
But care is always needed with this critical area!

If you intend to keep this vehicle for a long time then the safest best is to pull the head and repair. Otherwise you will never know what debris and damage are way down there at the bottom.
