Something wrong with Quaker State?

It's fine. I don't really understand why it exists, PYB and Formula Shell probably both outsell it (retail and service), and some of their marketing has made no sense to me (torque power vs horse power). But, somehow it does sit somewhere between them and has for some time.

There's probably lots of people out there that are very brand-loyal to QS. There's probably enough of them to justify the existence of the brand. I've come across people that will only use QS. I had a UOA done on QS synthetic a couple years ago and it looked every bit as good as Pennzoil Platinum did in the same car, for close to the same OCI. (Solstice)

funny u should ask, I had just called Advanced Auto and ask them what the top 3 oils were sold at their store, he said PP, Castrol and its a mix after that. But Q State does not do well here, Cookeville tn, on I 40. Must be the old story of Q.state causes sludge, thats what he said. I dunno know.

I'm sure that's a big part of it. It seems that SOPUS never did enough to rescue the Quaker State brand from that fiasco.

Quaker State's synthetic oils are related (if not identical) to Shell Helix Ultra, which has been factory fill for some very expensive cars. For a while it was the only oil recommended by Ferrari for Ferraris in the US.

Nice to see another Solstice owner around these parts!

I used it for years, that and pennzoil, some people see it as
formula shell-good
quaker state- better
pennzoil- best
If you didnt know. all three are now made by shell oil

Years ago I had a 75 Honda Civic CVCC, and when I used QS it had a lot of heavy varnish on the valve train. When QS bought Slick 50 it turned me off totally.

A lot of the quickie lube places really push it around here. So that turns me off to it because of all the other things they do. I'm still affected by the sludging rep from the old days. Don't even know if that was even true.

A bad rap is hard to overcome whether it was ever deserved or not.

I used QS in the 60s and it sludged really bad even with 2000K OCIs. I know it is a very good dino oil now from what I see here.

It's in my crankcase right now.

It's the least expensive of the "name brand" oils at my Walmart. I can't see using Supertech when you can get QS for 50 cents more for a 5 qt jug.

In addition, the green bottles appeal to me.

It's very popular up here. Has been for years.

That's very interesting. I didn't know it was a big seller in Canada.

Back in the early 90's there was some bad press about QS having a high wax content and causing sludging.
