I have always changed my own oil, and my parents from pre teen years, so I guess I was born with the bug (I'm also a machine technician by trade) so now the new bug is purchasing oil for absurd savings...this is complete opposite to picking out a good high price oil that is top of the line...however not to go overboard I have been catching the on sale oil. I have 4 jugs of Q Torque I purchased at $8 for the 5 quart jugs ( I bought walmart out, I have 4 left) so I go to buy a oil filter yesterday, purolator pure one (I'm going at least 10,000 mile between changes) and dang if they didn't have pennzoil yellow bottle oil change special for (then I find the mail in rebate for $5) $15.99, can't refuse $1 a quart oil..then add the rebate so free oil. My problem is how will I ever catch up on my oil to be used, I in a frantic move to keep my oil stash fresh have been using the 5w30 in the summer, and will be using 5w-20 for winter use, but now I have to go back to get more oil because pennzoil has the rebate, so that would be free oil change minus filter.. ohh the joy of a oil stash !!

ps I'm scared from reading other post to admit my oil stash, for fear of forum raiders

You're in Georgia, and use a different oil for winter...

ha, time value of money owns you but then again, you don't have much tied up here, just SPACE!

FYI, plastic bottles don't keep out moisture. I hope you keep the oil in the dryest environment you have.. . even if it's inside!!!

I threw away overstocked transmission and Brake fluid the other day b/c of this. I just don't want the risk.. .

Find the nicest bottle of oil you have and put it under your pillow while you sleep. It will soon become your "precious" and that one bottle will be all you think about until your stash runs out.

It will be like the movie Castaway where Tom Hanks talks to the coconut.

I used 5 year old Chevron oil the other day so the oil stays fine for years.

I've used up to 7 year old oil in the past. Todays prices make sure I don't have as big of a stash as I've had in the past so the oil will get used up sooner than later.

But if you can score $1 oil, grab it. Someone in your family will get use of it and save $$.

Go back and look at some of our stashes in threads on this board. (with photos)

Some of us had 500 quarts at one time!

You are ok and with friends.

Take care, Bill

it's a disease. we need a "help" group. all my friends and neighbors tease me: "Hey Tom, do you have some oil?"
the biggest problem is they actually keep improving specs. I have some Dexron II that I dont know what to do with, same with ATF+3, and some older spec amsoil ATF.

I couldn't raise anyone at that number, you got it typed right?

I was at walmart tonight ( I also have pictures on my phone of the walmart $15 pennzoil gift card, it's a mail in rebate), I got tired of doing the ditch oil change I have done so long, and sprung for the 12,000 pound ramps, now it's official. I used ramps a while back for a long time, then some how one ramp went missing, the ramps make changing oil so easy. Now for a little more honest talk, anyone on the sideline about changing oil, if you can follow simple instructions, use a decent mid grade dino, or synthetic whatever you like there is so much savings in changing your own oil, and chances are probably 90% or better you will do a much better job the the shops you take them to.

Now I just purchased another 5 quarts of pennzoil platinum at advanced auto using the $10 off coupon the total was $16, after mail in rebate= $1 maybe $2 not counting filter, not bad at all. I'm going to get a couple more of these for my mother, and my uncle.

By the way I have been trying to reach that number for a long time, it keeps saying buy more oil ? haha, have I already mention I picked up some shell rotella HD 30 for the mowers ? also on sale $9.99, that's enough oil after I finish all I can on the pennzoil rebates. Now yall stop it, it's starting to really effect my thinking.

That is the best piece of oil related advice I have ever heard in my life! I am off to the garage to grab a quart of Redline 5w30. I just hope my wife doesn't notice.
