Some People Should NEVER Be Allowed To Do OCIs

Yea it's not really a good idea although I've done it. If I'm just got my arm under the truck to remove the plug and filter. Ill jack it up usually not even off the ground just enough to be able to to squeeze under it enough.

Safety is very important. Just recently a friend of mine was working on his car, up on jack stands and pretty much the way it should be done and the car slid off of the jack stands. Luckily no damage and nobody was hurt but it could have ended very differently since he had just been under the car replacing brake cables. Very very important to maybe even get an extra pair of jackstands and position them elsewhere just in case because you never know.

Yup, too many people simply don't know or choose to ignore that a jack is made to raise a vehicle, not to support it's weight for extended periods of time. Too many tragedies have been a result of collapsing jacks and it's not the jack's fault.

I don't disagree that you should always use jackstands, BUT if a truck like that fell would it acctually crush him? Seems like it would be to high, on the other hand, if it fell while he had his arm getting to that strange filter location, I could definitely see his arm getting mangled up pretty badly..

Meh, as long as he didn't have he chest under the differential, it would probably turn out okay. Still though, with a pickup you don't need to lift it, there's plenty of ground clearance.

My favorite part is how he used a crescent wrench on the drain plug.

The wrench was a classic. I was hoping to see a wooden handle flat head screwdriver used at some point.

And, used it backwards tightening the drain plug.
At the beginning he says it has the 5.4. At the end he says 4.6. I was wondering, if it IS the 5.4, he is shy 1 qt. of oil.

I like a drain pan with a screen so the drain plug does not go in the soup. Been there done that.

I jacked up my vehicle once with a 2x4 block between the jack pad and vehicle. But it was a triangle. When I was done I noticed the 2x4 was now cracked and could have come apart at any time. I did have jack stands.

My Dad taught me to start with a 6pt socket and if that cannot get into the bolt/nut area then go with a wrench and try an adjustable wrench or pliers last. Best (grab at the bolt/nut) to worst.

What you mean? Everybody with a car does an OCI. Well maybe a 100% electric doesn't.

The real question: Why do clowns video record everything they do?

Exactly. Toss the 5 gallon bucket and get an oil drain pan.

All I can say is wow, no jack stands is stupid. That big watch didn't help him getting that drain plug out either, it got in the way. I guess U-Tube makes people rock stars and authorities in subjects they know little about.

I've scrounged up a garage full of blocks and pieces of wood. block wheels, drive car onto plywood etc, blocks of wood handy... If you tow a trailer, blocks of wood required for emergencies!
I've been lucky, haven't had a need for jack and stands yet...

I just drive onto a stack of 2x8s.

Perhaps we should be leaving comments on his video over @ youtube. Complaining here won't give him an opportunity to learn the right way.

My routine for cars , SUV's and vans : Rhino Ramps (oversize / over weight) , over weight jack stands under each side front cross member bars , two sets of tire skids (front & back) under each rear wheel...Over kill ? I don't ever want to find out !!
