Somali pirates kill 4 Americans.

The only way to deal with terrorists is to elevate the level of brutality to a level they cannot tolerate. It's the only thing they understand. They don't seem to have a problem with it. Sorry if that seems inhumane and harsh, but sometimes it does go back to primal instincts and revenge. If you are not willing to get down in the dirt and roll with these guys and get just as nasty or nastier as they are, go home and wait for them to show up at your door.
As for the "tourists" they were playing a dangerous game, but they did not deserve to be attacked in international waters and killed.

Rant over, sorry

You use shovels for funerals at sea?

I'm just proud that I can boast to live in times during which pirates roam the seas!

Agree to the infinite number. My wife told me that a stupid co-worker is disappointed and get this, her EGYPTIAN plans were ruined because of what has happened there. I said " I don't care if it's where civilization started, I'm never going there." And what's worse, the lady said that if things go back to 'normal', she'll go to Egypt.(???)It's the same scenario here. WHY would these people go into this hot spot?

I'll never understand people.

I can understand that. Ive wanted to do a Nile cruise for a while now. Im kind of bummed that I may not be able to go for a while. But IMO Egypt, even in current state is different then Somalia.

Boo hoo, her plans were ruined-HOW DARE THEY! I've always wanted to visit Mexico. Being a cop, I've gotten used to nationwide carry and was leary about going anywhere without a gun to begin with. I wouldn't dare travel there now, gun or not. I'm in constant contact with folks in the national security biz, and from what I'm being told about attitudes towards Americans, I'm keeping my happy posterior right here. We may soon be bordering a country on par with afghanistan.

Funny how fast things can change.

seems like only weeks ago that dead hostages were being predicted.

RIP for the victims, doesn't matter what they were doing, or their motives they don't deserve that.

Pirates will have aeons to consider their actions.

The pirates presently have 30 ships and over 660 hostages. This has to be considered with any action we take.

Though I don't think this should keep us from modifying our rules of engagement at sea. We need to stop thinking we can act humanely in these situations.

These pirates were really brainiacs! You gotta wonder what went through there head when they shoot an RPG at a Navy Destroyer? You are not going to come out well with that move.

Not my idea of a smart vacation, but I do feel sorry for the people who died and their families. The Navy should have the green light to sink the Pirate boats and chum the waters to help feed the sharks, or perhaps treat them like the Russians did. As long as we play nice, nice with them these acts will continue.

Well 15 of them will live better than 99.9% of the population of Somalia for a good long while. And for the most part their operational paradigm has befuddled the world's Navies.

I'm wondering if we loaned some of our Navy to the Israelis they could take care of the problem.

For the cost and budget of one of our carriers we could have 100 medium cutters available/patrolling anywhere on the globe 24/7.

Smaller moble highly trained special forces and spooks in all branches of service is where we need to be going IMHO

Isn't it funny when 'they' call themselves martyrs when they're killed, we look at them as crazy. BUT these 'christians' were "noble"? What's the difference?

They got BURNED when they put their hands on a hot stove.

All depends on ones outlook/viewpoint.

We're getting on thin ice here tho.

Like I said before. Run a couple Tomahawk cruise missiles into the towns that they occupy and take care of the problem at the source.

I think the mistake this yacht sailing couple made is that they assumed that they would be well received or at least ignored at arrival, when in reality they would be perceived as volunteers driving Rolls Royce into a soup kitchen serving food while sipping champagne in the process.

So, they end up kidnapped and slaughtered as sheep. Not that they deserved it, but they didn't plan or avoided risks according to the reality.
