Solutions for separate turn and brake circuits vs combined taillights

Hello Humans, I’ve been lurking about many times on this site and just now needed to create an account. Not a newb here but at the same time I guess I am. I’m building my own flatbed for my 24 Ram and making the wiring for my taillights etc. These rams have a separate turn signal wire and a separate brake but most of the LED oval taillights have them combined. What are the solutions to have them both operate without the brakes overriding the turn signal when turning and braking, obviously without making separate and dedicated tail lamps for each function. I would like to install a single lamp on each side with all the functions integrated, ie running light, reverse etc. I have found some very nice EU style lamps that have the turn and brake separated and will most likely use those, but out of curiosity if I wanted to use the other, how would I do it? Is it possible to use diodes or a gate somewhere?

You can buy Hella lights.

Then you would have to make your own harness.

I’ve had to wire up one of these on every Toyota truck I ever owned. The generic term is “trailer light converter”

I’m assuming you’re wiring a plug into the truck and that it doesn’t already have a prewired connector?

I’m making a harness and making it plug and play into the original connector for the OEM taillights. It’s just that the new taillights of the rams have a separate amber turn signal from the brake. I could use the 7 way trailer connector since the brake and turn are already combined there but I dont want to tap into the wiring like that, seems unprofessional and has tendencies to fail with those quick taps. I saw a post from another site comment something like “just run a diode and bring the turn and brake back together” and that didn’t make any sense to me because putting a diode in a way that would for example block the turn signal from flowing into the brake would restrict the flow of electricity for the turn signal to work. I just came here to see if anyone could explain to me how that would work, if there’s something actually doable in the electrical sense? Or was this guy just yapping non sense?

They make trailer light interfaces that do this for you. They are like $20-30 at most. That is an easy way for sure. Just wire the interface into your new harness.

Just wire in the converter after the vehicle plug and attach it to the trailer.
