so why are so many ripped at Mobil?

Link me to it. That's great, then. I really wasn't saying it was a bad oil. I just specifically think there are better oils for the LS1.

Based on UOA's or actual tear-downs?

Whatever is easier to find. I meant the UOA, but I'd be happy to see both. Depends on what you feel like posting at the moment.

Good... Then I HATE MOBIL-1 because they aren't "THE BEST THEY CAN BE" they are the most profitable they can be with the cheapest product they can produce and get away with it. MAKE MY ENGINE LAST FOREVER AND HAVE SOME WILD EVIDENCE TO PROVE IT AND I WILL CHANGE TO MOBIL-1 FOR LIFE!!!!!

WATCH THAT!

But I can't take you seriously, nor your post as negative, so it doesn't work

Sorry, I was asking you that question

Doug posted some tear-down info recently and pretty much condemned UOA's as a valid way to determine how an engine is wearing. It's a good read.

Ok.. One more time... Seriously now... I would really like to see what I said above come to fruition.

One of us should start a thread for a "Mobil-1 Wish List" Things we would like to see this company do for us.

Then one of us could e-mail Mobil-1 the link to the thread and it would be in their hands to do it.

Sound good?

Press 1 if you have a question about Valvoline's claims

Press 2 if you have a question about oil specifications

Press 3 if you have a questions about corporate profits

"We meet all stated specifications and paid $30 billion in taxes in 2007. Have a nice day"

Johnny, with all due respect, why do you think that ExMo, or Shell, or whomever actually cares what the few oil fanatics on this site have to say? I think someone quoted that we (meaning people who actually give a [censored] about our cars) are only something like 2% of the public. If every one of us here simply stopped buying M1, it would amount to about an hour's revenue for them. I don't think there are enough decimal places in their accounting ledgers to even quantify it.

I think if all BITOG'ers stopped buying Mobil Products it would have the same effect as tinkling into the ocean to raise the tide, or to try and warm it up a little.

They get good ideas from here. They also get (got?) at least a little technology from here. Beyond that, Johnny was one of the majors, so when he tells you that companies such as his former one watch this place, your implication that they have no reason to do that comes across as a little silly.

What ideas and what technology?

I've participated in some interesting oil marketing studies over the past couple/few years that were taking ideas almost straight out of threads or posts on here.

I know who Johnny is (or was

) and I have the highest respect for him and his input here. I apologise if I seemed to imply otherwise.

I didn't say that they didn't watch this place, I said that I didn't think they cared what we thought of them. Maybe it would have been more accurate to say that I don't think they would change their behaviour because of what they read on this site, especially as we are in the extreme minority.

I only run mobil 1 in one vehicle----I have 3 autos and 5 bikes. I got tired of all the formula changes and the (suspected) cheapening of their products while keeping the price at a premium. I suspect in a year from now, none of my vehicles will have mobil 1 in them.

Yep. For every guy who leaves Mobil 1 there's a 17 year old who just got his first car and another generation of drivers hit the streets. Valvoline is going after the younger, newer drivers thats for sure. There the only ones nieve enough to buy into the "4X better strategy", because they know most 40 somethings and older have been around long enough to know propaganda and marketing when they see it.

I disagree... I think whatever you put on TV generally drives the joe-smoe to put it into his engine. Most people aren't anal enough about their oil, and could really careless. It's only our BITOGER's that truly take an interest and want to squeeze the absolute most performance out of an oil.
