So is M1 EP Walmarts best syn?

Pennzoil Platinum with Pure Plus technology - if it's on the shelf at your WalMart

I'm holding out for the Platinum Ultra.

M-1 EP would be my third choice

If they have the "old" Pennzoil Ultra that would be a great choice, too.

I'd say the best synthetic would be the one that is on sale at that particular time. I have a hard time believing that 99% of users would discern a real difference among the top selling brands.

+1 - while there are some engines that are persnickety about oils there are plenty of them like my FX4 that could care less what is ran in them (though M1 produced the best UOA thus far over PU and MS5K). The only difference is the few dollars between the oils and owner's preference. For some, it is the choosing of the lesser of the "evils"--i.e. all of them produce decent oils, but there always seems to be a political "atmosphere" surrounding each of the parent companies at some point or another.

It really does depend on the use.

For my turbocharged S2000, Mobil 1, 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck is "Wal-Mart's" best. That is a very robust oil, of the proper viscosity for my needs, with plenty of ZDDP, high TBN, and provides significantly better UOA results in anything I've used it in.

$25 for 5 quarts of EP is a good deal. Although it's not a brand-spankin-new formula, it is still a very stout one.

It's difficult to make a compelling argument against this -- TDT is an excellent product.

It has the best warranty which may make it the best choice for extended oci.

Maybe we should challenge dnewton to go 30k on it!

M1 EP is Mobil's flagship product that WalMart sells as well as Ultra, SOPUS' flagship. Buy the Ultra for the fuel rebate then go back to M1. Or stick with Ultra; both will protect your engine to the fullest.

Agree, but M-1 EP is unquestionably their top of the line product which will meet spec for just about any car in the world. For the price, why not?

I agree; I just consolidated - 5QT Jug Stash

IMO Wally's best syn is Castrol Edge gold bottle. However only some of them still have it. EP is in just about all of them as far as I know so I guess it wins the OP's question by default.
