So...how many are not filling their census forms?

I'll take that as a compliment from big brother.

If they count that, imagine how many would know after a couple generation where their grand or great grand parents are from?

Interesting link I found. I was surprised to learn that past censuses (censi?) have asked questions about how much you owe on your mortgage (!), and also your private medical history (!!).

It seems that the same questions and concerns we have today were not that different in 1790.

An interesting perspective here.

Every generation of middle aged people think that the last generation got everything done right and the next generation got everything done wrong. This generation included.

Have you noticed that the generation complaining the most about the next generation is the generation that raised it?

The extra questions are only there so they know where to send the vote-buying money. Since they can't buy my vote I didn't anwer them.

I would never want a job where I had to walk up a long, dusy driveway and tell them "I'm from the Gummint. I need to ask you some questions"

On line form for the census? No way. Any electronic tally of anything (including voting machines) must be verifiable thru a manual process to avoid an avenue for abuse

I don't pay it a second thought either, just complete it in line with it's originally stated purpose.

Good call.

Not answering the questions that are too personal is a very different thing from not filling out the census at all. The former is quite reasonable; the latter is... less so. That distinction was very rightly pointed out here and deserves to be underscored.

Ahhh....that time again in Oz.

So this year they decided to require everything bar what position that your parents were in at the time of conception.

And put it online.

And were positing that they would merge the census data with Tax office and Centrelink data to obtain a whole of population snapshot.

Oh, and have it online...

And have the data collected and analysed by (up to four) private companies.

$180 fine for not completing it, and $180 per day that you didn't do it.

Fortunately I live in an area that is becoming rapidly an old person's home, so they sent out paper versions to all in my district.

Again, I filled out the paper version fully in accordance with the requirements of the act...

But did I mention that the majority of the information was being done online ???

Wow...chum the water with every bit of personal data from an entire country in the same 8 hour window, and who would have guessed that nasty people would try to get it ?
