So am I not smart if I run Redline

Redline has street and racing oils.

Some people like running the best and don't mind paying for it.

Just like many don't mind paying for the best of any product.

Yes.....next question

No, your pretty smart to run redline if you could afford it.

Money out of the way of your decision, its the best oil and is in a class by itself. You will feel and see the difference,i have.

BTW, there are two types of redline oil, racing and one for regular street cars,so don't let people tell you its just for racing, cause its not true.Check out their website.

Yeah, thats what I was seeing on there website, the "racing" oils and the "street" everyday oils. If it was just "racing" oils I wouldn't bother .And yes I keep my cars a very very long time, 10-15 years or longer, if they make it that long, pretty much as much as I can get out of them. I dunno, I rarely if ever buy a new car and I wanted to give her a top of the line oil.

I certainly would never critize RL oil. I'm just not sure their is a best. Some formulas of other oils may be RLs equal or even better for certain types of engines. Even though UOAs are limited in proving the quality of an oil, doesn't RL at times fall a little short compared to others? I've heard some here at BITOG say that. Amsoil seems to be very good as well, and I know M1 will produce very long lived and clean engines, so I just find it hard to place the badge of very best on any one oil.

I put RL and Amsoil in the best category. There are probably others premium oils also.

**I never claimed "very best".

If RL is hands down better than any other oil, or the rest, why don't we see a lot of others here using it?

Have you ever used it?

Heresy! That's common sense!! I'm appalled, there is no room for common sense on BITOG! We should be nitpicking the theoretical threats of unlicensed products and guys in suits chasing us down with briefcases full of threatening evidence against us as soon as we drive away with a crankcase full of unlicensed oil!

Ha ha made me think of this photochop...

Actually I haven't. Even though RL is no doubt a high quality oil, there are several other great oils out there as well for the average engine. In the racing world many products are used with M1 perhaps the best known, but I do see RL on the sides of racers as well.

I suspect that Honda could weasel out of the emissions warranty due to all that horrible ZDDP.

The engine is a different issue. Redline is clearly a premium oil. With receipts showing regular changes, I think you'd be in the clear in the unlikely event of a failure.

As mentioned, chat up the Redline folks, I bet they're 'up' on the legalities.

What mix do you have in mind? Their 5W-20 is quite sturdy for a 20 weight, with an HTHS of 3.3.
