It is funny for me to read comments like this, I was brought up to root for Warsaw Pact countries

I am glad that we did not have to test our might and level of stupidity in a real war

During the Cuban missle crisis:

1. An air base in the US had a perimeter alarm go off, so airctaft with 'special weapons' were scrampled; it was a bear,

2. The US forgot to cancel some U2 polar flights which triggered a Soviet alarm,

3. The US forgot to cancel a satellite launch which also triggered a Soviet alarm.

We sometimes have the impression that nothing but cool professionals using fail safe systems are in charge, when in fact it's just a group of people.

I was an Air Force brat in Japan during the Cuban missle crisis, and remember being worried as I didn't know why my dad had 'army gear', why my mom was crying, and why there was so much traffic and so many armed MPs and soldiers everywhere. I remember the duck and cover drills in school, and the atmospheric tests of nuclear weapons. I sometimes still have to wipe a watery eye when I see images of the Berlin wall coming down.

I thought even the people in the Warsaw Pact countries except for the people in the Military would be rooting for NATO and the West to throw the Russians out of Eastern Europe.
