Here's results of mating a '05ish Honda engine from a POS front drive Craftsman to a '83 Snapper deck that originally was not self-propelled... Most of the drive parts came from a '82 parts Snapper and the differential came from the '81 Snapper that recently blew the engine...

No I haven't waxed it and don't plan to do so...

Nope I fixed TVs for almost 40 years...

I've been using nothing but Snappers since '85 and now have zero desire to use anything else... My job helped me find parts while running service calls, would keep my my eyes open for good parts Snappers people had set on the curb... A friend gave me the Craftsman that one of his neighbors had set out for trash, sooo after my regular runner kicked the rod, I decided to build two good ones out of my parts and get rid of the remains...

I did cut grass with it this evening for the first time, runs great, I'm impressed...

Was there a shield on that drive wheel setup? I can imagine it grabbing a loose shoelace.

Yes the '82 parts unit did have a shield but it's the only one of four that has had one, no matter I haven't worn a laced shoe in years...

This deck had a 4Hp B&S that would have been a great engine but it has a bent crankshaft... All the others did have a 3.5Hp, two Briggs and a Tecumseh...

WELL DONE!!
IMHO The SNAPPER S/P (Drive system) is the best ever..
Those little transmissions are really strong and the driven disk is a time tested set-up..

Youe "Really should" Wax it though..

^^^^^^^^^^ LOL You got it...

BTW if anyone wants to do same, note the deck will need to be re-drilled to mount the engine facing forward... Also the oil filler interferes with mounting the chute for the bagger but since I only plan on using the "scatter" chute, it isn't a problem... I'll keep the bag on my other Snapper that still has a 3.5Hp B&S engine(or in other words it won't see much useage)...

I have a Snapper mower with Kawasaki engine. Looks like you built exactly what I paid a fortune for

Nice job! Now go out and get the castering front wheels and you'll have a commercial mower.

That red Honda mower actually looks pretty good on that red Snapper deck. And it should have plenty of power. I would guess that the cutting width on that Snapper is a couple of inches more narrow than a contemporary mower with a 5.5HP engine.

~28 years later and they haven't changed much!

LOL

Make that 34 years... This one belonged to my grandfather, bought it in approx '77, I've had it since '85... It has the std handle attachment, the one with the Honda has commercial brackets...

Still yours is a bunch prettier...

Looks as if yours has replaceable rear axle bearings, is that correct???
