My 1989 Legend has close to 180,000 miles on it. A year ago it was auto-rxed, Up here in Toronto, I have to get the car smog tested every two years. Two years ago it passed with no problems. This year it failed on the first test, then I cleaned the FI injectors using some cleaner, and then filled the tank with Sunoco Ultra94 and it subsequently passed. I noticed that in both instances during the test, the car smoked quite a bit. It never did this before. It was definitely burning some oil.
If I rev the engine with no load, no smoke will appear out of the tailpipe at all. It seems that only under the simulated load it does this.
The background to this is that the car sat idle for qbout 5 weeks while I was away. Before leaving I changed the oil ( Pennzoil 5w30). Could it be that one of the rings got stuck and then started burning the oil? Should I ARX again to see if it helps.
