I am switching my daughter over to GC and extended drains on her '02 Maxima V-6 with 40K miles. I just bought an M1 108 filter for the change. The size of the thing concerns me, it is about the size of the filter on my 2-cyl Honda lawn tractor - tiny. Mobil says it has 2X capacity of regular filters, but is it capable of holding enough for a 10K or longer OCI?

How much possible contamintes can an engine in sound mechanical condition generate in 10,000 miles? From my years of experiece with long drains (30 yrs), not a heck of a lot. I would be more concerned with the quality of the filter construction etc.

A funny note-A friend has 2005 Chevy with DuraMax diesel and his wife has a Saturn Vue 4x4 V6. His filter is about the size of a 1-lb coffee can and the one for the Vue is about the size of a baby food jar and costs several $ more.

miniaturization is a wonderful thing!
I was looking up filters for my 2005 Altima 3.5 V-6 And Wix and Mobil 1 recommend the shorter filter. But when you look up a Purolator or a Fram they recommend the longer filter. Both Wix and Mobil 1 make the longer filter but only recommend it for the 2.5 4 cyl.
The M-104 also fits this car.

I can understand your complaint about the "thimble" sizing. And don't you just love how the price is the same for all of the filters from M-1, regardless of size?
I doubt you'd have any problems using the M-110. I also doubt you'd have any problems with the M-108 for that length of an OCI.

Thanks Guys, I think I'll bring the 108 back for a 110. Even if it makes no difference, I will probably feel better about it. I grew up using 1515, PH8A, FL1A size filters for 3K mi. OCI's. It's hard for the old brain to adjust to using a thimble for 3x the duration.
