My BIL has a 42 in cut Simplicity Rider w/ 16-20 hp Briggs engine that is leaking oil from the Crank Shaft oil seal. He has asked me if I knew of any additive that may stop/slow down the oil dripping. I Don't!

It's not that the oil is dripping, it's where it's dripping!
The oil is dripping on the belts that drive the blades. He does not want to tear down the enging this year but, he will if he needs to.

I suggested Max Life Oil in the recomended grade in the OM, which is 10W30. He also asked if there is a higher wgt that would be recomended by our BITOG'ers or other additive recomendation before he starts ripping into this engine. He'd like to(if at all) do the tear down in the off season.

Any recomendations PLEASE?

I believe that you can excess the oil seal from the bottom of the engine without tearing the engine down , the seal on my 14.5 Briggs was that way ,press fit around the shaft into a recess in the bottom of the case , I only had to remove the pulley then removed the mounting bolts so I could lay the engine on it`s side , it wasn`t hard to do at all and only cost $12 , hope that helps ?

Thank you, I'll mention this to him
