03 sienna has near 40k and getting ready to change the trans fluid. What is capacity for drain and refill?
I tried the dipstick and gave me different levels in two different days. I think I read 3 qrts. But not sure it is enough. Is Pennzoil DexIII is good enough?

Pick up a chilton book for your car and it should list the capacities there.

CAPACITIES:
Engine, with filter..........5 quarts [1]
Cooling System, With RR HEAT Initial Fill..........11.1 quarts
AMSOIL Antifreeze and Engine Coolant
Cooling System, Without RR HEAT Initial Fill..........10.1 quarts
AMSOIL Antifreeze and Engine Coolant
Automatic Transmission, A541E Initial Fill..........5 quarts
Automatic Transmission, Total Fill
4 speed A541E..........8.5 quarts

Alldata lists drain and fill capacity as 5.0 qts on the trans. I would start with 4 initially.

Fluid type is listed as Dexron. A great upgrade would be any brand Mercon V. Difference being a syn-blend fluid. Maxlife tranny fluid would probally work, however I'm not a fan of one size fits most tranny fluid.

5 qts wow. I refilled it with 4 and dipstick indicates slight overfill. I appreciate your input.

I ended up with three qts. I have no idea where the 5 qts come from that is listed in the manual! Anyone with same transmission should do three first and check before adding anymore.

If you don't drop the pan and filter, there is still a little bit in there due to the shape of the pan and the drain plug in relation to the pan.

When you open the pan, some more will come out. When you take off the filter, some more will come out. That was what happened to my Camry.

I measure what comes out....and replace with the same amount of new.
This is the process that I use when doing a cooler line fluid exchange and also when draining or dropping the pan.

I have Redline D4 for the tranny and power steering for my 2003 Sienna.
