I am about to go to walmart and my engine 4.7 v8 ram 1500 80k has had dino all its life it has no consumption or leaks that i know of should i use the M1 hm because its over 75k or just go with normal M1. this is my first time using a synthetic
Reg M1 will be fine. If I were you that's what I would use. Yes, for the life of the car. I know several that has put several hundred Ks on their engines with M1 5-30.
Any paper oem type filter is best. Don't change it too often, just set it and forget it for the recommended interval depending on your air.
Fram makes some pretty good paper filters but any filter that fits snug in the housing will it filter a performance filter. Oem is always a good choice. Consider rockauto.com if you're cheap.

If price wasn't an issue would it be a bad idea to change it every 8k even when its rated to 12k?
A cellulose based paper filter gains efficiency as it gets dirt in the pores. You should look at the service manual for change intervals not the box. Something closer to 30k for dusty environments or 60k for normal intervals are more realistic. 12k is ridiculously short.
If you want to get the cleanest air into your engine consider a KN filter minder for air filter restriction which will tell you exactly when you need to change the filter.
Fuel injected gasoline cars do not lose power or mpg with clogged air filters.
Most of the dirt that will get by an air filter gets by when it's new so it's wise to run them longer than shorter.
If your going the M1 route, then just use regular M1. There are other great synthetics out there too. PP, QSUD, M1, Valvoline SynPower...all great choices.
