Should I go to HAWAII?

Do you mean Kihei Maui? We went there last Jan, it was great. It's only a five hour flight from here, so your flight would be a little longer, but still worth doing.

I know you'll be snorkeling and such, but if you go to Maui you HAVE to get up to Lahaina and see this magic show Steve, you will not regret it. It sells out way in advance, so you have to make reservations.

I say go for it :) Take lots of sunscreen

Hawaii is fun but there are downsides. By the time you get to day 4 or so, jetlag creates some tiredness. You have to usually take a red eye back.

If I did it again, which I likely will, I'd try to take a day or two in LA or SF on the way out and the way back

Wife was born there. Won't go back. Plenty of relatives on three islands.

It's neat and you should go.

Worth it? You decide. Just do all you can to avoid the tourist ripoff garbage. Always best to stay with natives.

I'm a "stick to the hotel, do a little independent site seeing, roast in the sun on the beach" kinda guy.

I'm not one to buy into $!#@ easily.

For only 5 days....with one day spent at a wedding (yuck), long flight, uncertain economy, and costing you $2000? Well, Hawaii is a great place and the beauty and activities can't be beat, but I would pass until you could spend more time there. At least a full seven to ten days. I've been there three times and loved every minute of it, but if I only had five days I would feel rushed and sad that I couldn't stay longer.
Just my opinion.

Good point, $2k is kinda spendy for just 5 days, especially with one day spent (wasted ) at the wedding. That's about the same amount the wifey and I spent for 10 days over there this past January, splitting the cost of the condo with some good friends.

Buddy pass? Have a friend who is offering you a once in a lifetime standby ticket on a domestic carrier? (chortle)

Nice beach is the Kaanapali beach. Also Mama fish house a little expensive but great tasting seafood. Maui waters has some good seafood much better than Oahu. Hurricane just passed by cat 4 140mph but went head into the cold waters off the Big Island turned to mush. Another is headed here at 125mph nothing to worry about, a little clouds few passing showers it'll turn to dust.

Just keep your mind focus and plan what you want to do and see.

I don't have the cash sitting in my bank account but I have no consumer debt and have a good paying job and minimal living expenses. I was thinking going on my credit line and just paying it off in a couple months. Can't not go to Hawaii!

The catch is I have to accompany someone from my work (different department) to a wedding on one of the nights. We will be there 5 days total and the rest of the days we are there are up to us to have fun.

It's approximately 11 hours to/from there with a connecting flight in LA.

So what does everyone think?

I meet a lot of Canadians who come to Hawaii especially during the winter months. Very nice people.
