Hi all, Got 3000 miles on the PU in my truck now. First run of synthetic in its life. Oil has gotten dark but not terrible. Thinking about changing this out now. I have plenty of Ultra 5w30 SN and Napa Golds in the stash. Am i just too bored?
Should I change my PU early?

Run it to 5K at least.
Why change it early? That would be a complete waste of good oil. If you're bored and you live in Florida, why not detail your truck?
Getting dark after 3k is not abnormal. The color does not effect the lubricating qualities of the oil or neutralize the add pack.
5k minimum. If the engine has been well maintained I would do more like 7.5. The PU can more than handle that.

+1 on both the above posts. Why not run 5k and do UOA??? Should be able to get 7500 no problem with your climate. I'd suggest start at 5k and work out from there. UOA on F150 at 5500k with synthetic blend was still good to go much further. See what you get!

In Florida I would go to 7500 on PU. Actually, I would go 7500 on it up here.

I assume this is on the 2003 Silverado in your signature.
How dark is the oil? If the oil is jet black and sticky then you have a engine full of sludge. If the oil is just turning dark after 3K miles that's fairly normal.
I was under the impression that PU can go 10K or even more.

I love this line of thought!! Or you can vacuum or shampoo the carpets or check other fluids on it!! ATF, P/S fluid? Id run it to 5k than change it for more PU. Im on PU right now, and running it 10,000 kms.. guessing around 7500 miles. Im at about 4200 kms now and the oil is still super clean.. maybe the oil is cleaning up some varnish etc.. swap it at 5k and leave the next OCI of PU in for 7500 miles minimum.

I am currently running PU in my Burb and am doing a 2x OLM OCI, which should be about 8-9,000 miles. I will not be using PU going forward (can't find it at a good enough price), otherwise I would dump at 7,500 miles and get a UOA.
