Should I add to my oil stash?

I keep a well documented notebook for maintenance and repairs for my vehicles but I only save receipts for items that have a warranty. I dont record light bulb replacement or wiper blade replacement because thats not an indicator to longevity/reliability issues that a future owner would be concerned with.

Maintenance records > receipt IMO.

I never see these deals in Canada! I jump on a sale for Mobil 1 when they offer the 4.4 litre jug and the 1 litre for $30 and think that's a great deal. Never see oil for that cheap here...

Even Walmart

At $2/qt, I'd buy a case or two. Give it away to friends and relatives if nothing else

Checked 8 of the 12 Autozone in my area and only one store had XW-20 oils but it was out of stock.

If I needed XW-40 Mobil 1, Pennzoil or Castrol, it's at every store for $2. Lots of it!!!

Just buy what you need for a 2 year window of changes for each vehicle you own.

Resist the hoarding tendency others have expressed here.

Just like the big jar of pickles at SAM's Club, too much oil is a poor value too.

Next year's oil sale, a new vehicle with different oil requirements, physical damage to the oil containers, and reduced storage space in the garage all make that expansive oil hoard less attractive.

Just ask the guy with 3 cases of leaking API SJ 10W-40 Sunoco in his garage.

Walmart usually has 5 quarts of the latest, best synthetic oil on sale for $22-$26 everyday.
