Short prybar

Hi,

I encountered a short snap-on prbar today but didnt get the part number. I'd say the overall length wasnt longer than a typical screwdriver, so I guess 4"? Looks like the striking prybar from snap-on but was shorter than the ones on their site. The very end was wider than the actual shaft.

Any recommendations for a good strong and very short prybar? Must be US-made.

I have an old craftsman prybar, about 6inches and I have used it for near everything. US made, have hit it with sledges, great one, covered by the lifetime warranty. They have the professional ones now too.

I have a cheap Harbor Freight set like those that have worked well for 20 years.

What are you prying? Do you want a "cloven hoof" to get nails? Little ones for carpentry are often called "cats paws".

Check out Mayhew. They are USA made and are the OEM for Matco. Are you sure your 4" was a prybar? It sounds like you were looking at a carbon scrapper.

The bar I was using was snap on part # SPBS8.

Got the number from the owner. Great little sturdy tool!

I have one, it's often called a "Screwdriver"

OK, you were using an 8" instead of 4".... I have that one and you are right, it is handy at times but I often use a beefy screwdriver if the little pry bar is not handy.

Check out the "Perfect Handle" screwdrivers. These look like screwdrivers but they really make more sense as prybars. I have a set of cheap, chinese made ones, and they are great for when you actually want to use a srewdriver rather than a pry bar to pry with.
