Canadian Driver's Jim Kerr meets 2 Shell specialists in Canada and in the US.

No word about any fuel economy gains though... Comments?

Probably no fuel economy gain, but it should prevent one from losing performance over time due to fuel deposits.

Interesting article. Thanks.

MMO might clean just as well if not better. But MMO adds lubrication to the fuel system and its an UCL. I just recently switch from regular Shell to cheaper regular Hess + MMO.

Minou,

If you can afford Shell gasoline with nitrogen then more power to you! Here in California Shell is one of the highest priced gasolines around and would rather use Arco and put in a bottle of Techron every oother month. In the past I never saw/seen/observed any performance gain useing Shell over Arco.

In my neck of the woods, there aren't as many Shell stations but the price is the same as the others. Currently, I have great results using Ultramar but will try Shell in the future, especially if the tanks don't advertise "May contain up to 10% Ethanol".

Man all we have is SHELL stations around me. 2 Sunocos that are at a distance, a BP and a WAWA that are both a ways away(10+ miles). The SHELL's are all priced the same anywhere I go.

I guess there can't be an additive thread with out at least one post about MMO or Auto-Rx.

Just talking about Shell's nitro gas without comparing it to something else is pretty much pointless.

After running the vehicles for a while, the engines were disassembled and the amount of intake valve deposits was measured. In a Montreal area tests, a competitor’s gasoline created 192.2 grams of deposits while the Shell Bronze fuel created only 35.5 grams. A second test with another competitive fuel showed 104.1 grams of deposits vs. 17.3 grams with the Shell Bronze.

So, these deposits are per 3 cylinders... so that makes it about two troy ounces of deposits per cylinder. That's really hard to imagine. There's can actually be that much extra luggage dragging along pistons and the surface of the cylinder, or am I not understanding something right??

--PS. nope, supposedly two ounces of weight just over the tiny surface area of valves; now I'm really lost as to what they're talking about.

I'm actually running 93 now in my Toyo 2.4. Mileage appears to be the same as 87, and I noticed a drop when i tried 89. Weird...

I figure if I'm not losing power (doubt running 93 in an 87 minimum car matters), the xtra detergent is worth it to me.

AFAIK? THE NITROGEN [censored] IS JUST THAT.

ITS A GIMMICK TO MAKE YOU THINK YOURE GETTING SOMETHING EXTRA.

WELL YOU ARE .

A CON JOB.

FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL CHEMSITRY CLASS I WAS TAUGHT THAT NITROGEN IS AN INERT GAS .

IT WILL NOT BURN!!!!!!!!!!!

SO IF THEY ACTUALLY ARE ? PUTTING NITROGEN GAS INTO THEIR GASOLINE ? TO WHAT AVAIL ?IT DOESNT BURN SO IT CANT ADD ANYTHING TO THE COMBUSTION OF THE FUEL.

ITS A CON

Hey Albert Einstein, try reading up on Amines before you go making yourself look foolish.

OTOH, Amines have been around forever, and Shell's "Nitrogen Enriched!" add campaign is pretty dang stupid!

In the old days you did get more detergents with the higher octane gas. But today, many retailers advertise the same addditive levels in all 3 grades of fuel. Chevron, Quik Trip (QT) and Shell come to mind. If your car doesn't call for premium fuel - you're just wasting your money.

Actually, Vpower has "5 times" the level of amines than the other two levels. So its a matter of whether you feel like spedning the xtra dough on the xtra detergents.
